00:00A family in Barangay Landayan in San Pedro, Laguna is still staying in the evacuation center
00:06because the flood is still not reaching their area.
00:09First news is from Niko Wahe.
00:15After a few days of heavy rain, the Christine and Leon floods still reached some parts of Laguna,
00:22especially the areas near Laguna Dibay.
00:25Here in Barangay Landayan in San Pedro, the flood has been going on for two weeks already.
00:28The water is black and smelly.
00:31The garbage and dirt are also mixed in.
00:35Luz' house has a roof inside so that her family won't get soaked in the flood.
00:41Their beds are also soaked in the water.
00:44Our house is already smelly. Sometimes, we even cut ourselves. It's already smelly.
00:51They've been here for a long time and they don't plan to leave.
00:55It's hard to get a house now. It's very expensive.
00:58We can't afford to buy a house because I'm just a plumber.
01:04In this part of Barangay Landayan, they are using this raft.
01:09Because until now, the situation is still the same.
01:12The flood is still severe. The water is still reaching Baywang.
01:17The residents are not leaving because they are always saying that they are already used to it.
01:22Joanne's family, even though they are already used to it, is still having a hard time in this situation.
01:27The children here are also hurting because of the smell.
01:31When it rains, their ears hurt.
01:33They are also having a hard time getting a job.
01:36It's hard to get a job.
01:38It's like they are swimming and when they get there, they are still drowning in the flood.
01:42Other residents are also getting sick.
01:45It's been five days already.
01:47Even though the residents are using a raft, there are still people who need to swim in the flood.
01:53According to the Barangay, there are more than 1,200 cases of drowning here in Landayan.
01:58We are swimming. We are carrying water. We are delivering it.
02:02Maybe it's because of the water. The water is already black.
02:05Inside our house, there is no raft.
02:08It's just that our feet are itching because of the water.
02:12There are more than 20 cases of drowning in the barangay.
02:16We are next to the river Lawa.
02:17Until now, we are still experiencing water in our house next to the river Lawa.
02:25What's happening?
02:26It's because our area is low.
02:29That's why the water is stopping.
02:31The water reached us in December.
02:33According to San Pedro LGU, Laguna Lake is too silted.
02:38The reason is so that it cannot receive water.
02:40There are too many puddles under the lake.
02:43That's why when it floods, it doesn't sink immediately.
02:46Is there a solution to the long-standing problem?
02:49Our waterways are continuously declogging, desilting,
02:57and we are putting in slow protection and retaining walls, flood control projects
03:04so that the rainwater from the upper areas goes straight to Laguna.
03:12San Pedro's LGU is also talking to the LGU of Binan and Maguing in Muntinlupa
03:17to help solve the slow flooding, especially in lakes or barangays.
03:23This is the first news, Niko Juaje for GMA Integrated News.
