00:00Congratulations on the U.S. presidential elections. We have with us the Philippine ambassador to the U.S., Jose Manuel from Maldives. Good morning ambassador.
00:08Good morning to you.
00:10How is the situation in the U.S.? It's just been a few hours and it's already election day.
00:15Well, everybody is anxious here. All the voters are eagerly waiting for tomorrow.
00:27This election is a big deal because it's very close and the country is divided now.
00:36What is the pulse of the Philippine community for the two candidates who will be elected later?
00:44Well, it's kind of the same pulse.
00:48It's divided.
00:49Yes, it's divided. I'm from Ohio and Filipinos are divided there.
00:57Some are Republican candidates and some are Democratic candidates.
01:02But in California, we know that there are more Filipinos there and mostly, of course, there are Democrats in California.
01:11Yes. We have a series of crimes against Asians.
01:16Is there anything that our countrymen will target related to the election, ambassador?
01:21Nothing. You know, the good thing about our Filipinos is that we are appreciated here.
01:29Generally, in all the districts here in America,
01:36there are a lot of Filipinos that are really good workers and appreciated by the community.
01:41Our food, Adobo and Kapansit, is very popular here.
01:47So there are Filipinos who will run, ambassador?
01:52There are. I don't remember who, but in California, there are Filipinos who will run.
02:00Okay. Whoever wins, Kamala Harris or Donald Trump, will the results of the U.S. elections affect the economy of the Philippines?
02:10Well, we don't know the clear policy of the Republican Party candidate, President Trump.
02:21But we know that America comes first.
02:23What we expect is that American businesses in China will move to Asian countries.
02:33So we're hoping that it will continue.
02:35But there is a push for many of these companies to go back to the United States and manufacture in the United States.
02:42They will give tax incentives.
02:45We're still hopeful that there are more businesses that will go to the United States.
02:51The latest figures is that the biggest exports in the Asian countries, Vietnam and the Philippines,
03:00is on top of the list of exports to the United States, which is a good sign.
03:05Ambassador, do you think our problems in the West Philippine Sea and mutual defense treaty will affect or change?
03:13Who will win between the two?
03:16Nothing will change. I talked to the people who worked for President Trump and they will return to the White House.
03:27They assured me that our defense treaty will continue.
03:32Our existing force agreements since 1993 and 1994 and the end current in 2016.
03:41It's important for them because it's in their interest that the Indo-Pacific region is in America.
03:49Thank you very much. Take care Philippine Ambassador to the U.S. Jose Manuel Romualde. Thank you.
03:54Thank you Arnold. Thank you Fred.
