Aidan Turner is in yet another incredible series, this time playing Declan O'Hara in Disney+'s Rivals. He says him and his family were so used to seeing him on TV with no clothes on as he's "always in a state of undress!" at this year's 2024 Harper's Bazaar Women Of The Year Awards in London. 00:00So, you're at the Women of the Year Awards in Claridges. Do you ever get used to these
00:04swanky events?
00:05No. I don't know if anyone ever gets used to them. I think if you get used to them,
00:09you're... Well, you shouldn't, should you? I don't know. It always feels a bit special
00:13and fun. Yeah.
00:14So, what a year you're having. How are you feeling about everything? And I want to know
00:19what happens next as well.
00:20Yeah, I don't know. I can't tell you that. It's going really well. It's fun. The show's
00:26been received really well by critics and by the audience, and we just want to do more
00:31of it.
00:32Did you have to do some warnings to your family, the friends, about what they're about to see?
00:37They've seen it all before with me, I'm afraid. There's no more secrets, is there? So, no,
00:42I didn't. I was a bit embarrassed about my mum seeing it, probably. That'll never get
00:45easy, but no, no more disclaimers.
00:48I guess it's embarrassing if you watch it with your mum.
00:50Yeah, that doesn't happen anymore, no.
00:52Has it ever happened?
00:54Has it ever happened? Probably not, actually. I don't know. I'm always in a state of undress.
01:00Yeah, yeah, right.
01:01Just you with your top off with your mum.
01:03Yeah, that'll work. That'll be great fun.
01:06So, when you went on set, were you teaching everyone else how to feel okay with no clobber
01:11on?
01:12I think the thing is they've done it before too. I don't think it's anybody's first rodeo.
01:18I think we're all pretty experienced at taking our clothes off for money.
01:22And are you enjoying it? Is this what you want to do?
01:24It's so much fun, yeah. It's great. It was a lot of fun, but it's great that an audience
01:28gets to see it and appreciators and the critics respond to it.
01:32Do you ever read a script and go, for God's sake, why can't I wear a boiler suit?
01:36Yeah, yeah. I think that's the next job. What did you hear? How do you know?
01:41Maybe a submarine, you have to wear clothes down there, don't you?
01:44Maybe so, yeah, yeah.
01:45So, what is that your inspiration? We're at the Women of the Year Awards. Who inspires you?
01:49Well, I'm here for Gilly. I'm going to make a speech for Gilly Cooper later, so that's
01:52why I'm here.
01:53How many Gilly books have you read?
01:55Oh, don't do that to me. Two. I've only read two. There's 44 in the collection. I've had
02:00two. Riders and Rivals, that's it.
02:02So, what about making other shows? Are you going to pitch things so you get involved
02:07in producing, directing?
02:08I mean, that's fun. That's all circling around. There are things I want to do and I'm writing
02:12with people and doing different things, but yeah, there's a world of stuff out there.
02:16It's just what you do next, isn't it?
02:18You could be the Gilly Cooper stud that's in it every single year.
02:21Wow, that's a very exciting proposition.
02:23And in regards to Rivals, do we get any more?
02:26I don't know. That's not our decision. It's only out a couple of weeks. It takes a while
02:30to, you know, all the numbers things and everything. Yeah, I don't know.
02:34And of the reactions you've seen, who's been your favourite? Because mine was Ryan Reynolds.
02:38Who was my favourite? What did Ryan Reynolds say about it?
02:40Ryan was Instagramming all about it, telling people to watch it.
02:43That's pretty cool. I don't know. I don't know anyone else has talked about it.
02:48I think maybe Nigella Lawson said something. I'm not too sure. I heard her whisper.
02:52And have you ever, be honest with me, have you ever looked yourself up on the GIFs on the phone?
02:56Never. Never.
02:59Enjoy doing that tonight.
03:01Cheers.
