00:00The government will do everything to build up the Bicol Region.
00:06That's what President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. promised to our fellow Filipinos who were hit by Hurricane Christine.
00:13Today, the President returned to Camarines Sur with additional assistance for those affected by the flood and fishing.
00:22Ken and Paciente, in Central News, live.
00:26Angelic, after more than a week, President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. returned to Bicol Region to get assistance for our fellow Filipinos who were hit by Hurricane Christine.
00:42Two hectares of land was submerged in the flood because of Hurricane Christine.
00:48So, what he was hoping for was a sack of rice, but it was gone.
00:51What's more painful is that he lost 50,000 pesos.
00:57If you get one hectare of land, 80,000 pesos, maybe half of it, or maybe 30%, so we lost a lot of money.
01:08Salvador is just one of the thousands of farmers who were hit by Hurricane Christine in Bicol Region.
01:13So, after more than a week, President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. returned to Pilica, Marinas Sur to get assistance.
01:21He himself provided financial assistance to the beneficiaries, which amounted to almost 50 million pesos.
01:27The 5,000 beneficiaries received a total of 10,000 pesos.
01:31I hope that with the assistance and support we are providing to you now, you will have the means to recover.
01:42The President received 50 million pesos to distribute to those affected by Hurricane Christine.
01:53The 5,000 beneficiaries, fishermen, and other families affected will receive a total of 10,000 pesos.
02:03The beneficiaries are very grateful because this is a big thing for them to start.
02:09We will buy seeds again, because we are really poor farmers.
02:22Even though we are affected by Hurricane Christine, at least we will be able to recover.
02:27Thank you very much for your support to the farmers so that they can save their livelihoods.
02:36Aside from the financial assistance from the Office of the President,
02:39the Agriculture Department received assistance from the Philippine Crop Insurance Corporation
02:43as well as financial aid and indemnity checks.
02:48Although the assistance was continuous, the President assured that the government will not stop its efforts
02:53to restore the normal conditions of those affected by Hurricane Christine in the region.
02:58If he will give, a proactive approach is needed to avoid widespread flooding,
03:03as well as climate change.
03:05At the same time, the DPWH will issue a directive to study the changes in the master plan of the Bicol River Basin Development Project
03:12so that the severe flooding in the region will not happen again.
03:15In July this year, the Department of Public Works and Highways completed the updating of the master plan
03:26and feasibility study of the Bicol River Basin
03:30to make it a catalyst for the challenges of climate change.
03:37At present, the detailed engineering design is being prepared
03:43which is expected to start in the first quarter of next year.
03:48Next year, when the new year 2025 begins,
03:54we will be able to start our plan so that the flooding in the Bicol River Basin will not happen again.
04:05The DPWH, DENR, and DILG were also instructed to assist the local governments
04:11to make the project integrated and future-ready.
04:14The Chief Executive also assured the DPWH, DOTR, and DTI
04:19that the infrastructure and high-quality materials will be used
04:24so that this type of project will last for a long time.
04:28While the DBM was instructed that the Quick Response Fund should always be ready,
04:32the President again acknowledged the assistance received by the Philippines from other countries
04:37from those affected by the flood.
04:39I would like to thank our fellow citizens in ASEAN again.
04:45ASEAN sent assistance, just like other places, they were also affected by the flood,
04:56but we were still given assistance.
04:59They sent airplanes, they sent goods,
05:05as well as the private sector that is ready to participate in the expansion of government projects.
05:14Angelique, at this time, the payout of cash assistance continues
05:19for the beneficiaries here in Pili, Camarinesura.
05:23The concerned agencies assured that they will receive it before the end of the day.
05:28Angelique?
05:29Yes Kenneth, is there an update from the DSWD on their relief operations,
05:35especially since there is a new type of flood?
05:44Yes Angelique, the DSWD Secretary Rex Gatchalian said that
05:48more than 400,000 family food packs have been distributed here in Bicol Region.
05:56And at this time, Angelique, there are no places that have not yet been reached
06:00after having access to places that were previously flooded.
06:05And like the SOP of the DSWD, Angelique,
06:09if there are signs of an upcoming flood,
06:12the family food packs are already prepositioned in places where it is possible to pass
06:17and be affected by the Marseille Flood.
06:19Angelique?
06:20Okay, thank you very much Kenneth Paciente.
