00:00Hi, I'm Gabby Souter from the Scotsman and I'm at the new Lost Shore, the 60 million
00:06surf resort that's opened in Rathoe. As well as Europe's biggest wave pool, it also includes
00:12restaurants as part of their canteen development where you'll find Siverinos, as well as Five
00:18March and Rafa. There's also accommodation to suit families from Armadillo. We caught
00:24up with Andy Haddon and Ben Larg, Scottish big wave surfer.
00:30I'm so proud to be opening on Monday and just to see the efforts that so many people have
00:35made and to get to this moment, it's not just really exciting for someone like myself, it's
00:40just seeing, looking around and seeing the excitement on everyone's faces, so a massive
00:45moment for us. Well it's just totally unique for Scotland and why I'm so proud of bringing
00:50it to a community that I grew up in and that I know and using my own networks around here
00:56is I believe this is a place where people can make their own adventures. We have the
00:59surfing, we have the accommodation and we just have what we think is a great place for
01:04families to come and eat and drink and watch the action. We think we've got something for
01:09everyone. We also have wellness facilities and so on too. In terms of the surfing itself,
01:16these are some of the best waves running in Europe right now. The professionals will tell
01:20you that, they've just come out of the water with their eyes on stops. It's also an amazing
01:24day one surfing experience and everything in between that is dialed in. So this really
01:30is for everyone and I've yet to see anyone in the last week leave this lagoon without
01:34a smile. It's absolutely amazing, it's been a long time coming so I think when I was 12
01:40years old I never really expected it to go the full way and we'd really have a wave pool
01:45in Scotland but yeah, dream come true. Believe it or not it's just as good so I think and
01:50especially coming to train here, obviously it's very consistent so I think from a training
01:58point of view it's going to be absolutely amazing for me, especially in summer time
02:02where we don't get as many waves. So I got to surf, I think it was the B3 setting, so
02:08the one below the biggest wave. I mean you're going to understand when you stand up on your
02:13first wave what you get out of it, it's just pure delight basically. It's like there's
02:18no feeling like it and I think that's what gets everybody hooked on surfing. In fact,
02:22sounds a little corny but one of the wave garden guys said this is not a machine that
02:26makes waves, it's a machine that makes smiles and I have to say that's exactly what's turned
02:31out in the last week or so. Hi, I'm Lisa Ferguson, one of the audio visual specialists. And I'm
02:36Gabby Souter, life scientist of the Scotsman. So today we have came along to Lost Shores
02:42and got a surfing taster session and I have to say I've never been a surfer before and
02:49it was absolutely amazing. How did you find it? You were better than me, I fell off quite
02:54a few times and I didn't manage to stand up but I still loved it, it was brilliant fun.
02:58One of those things that all the family could enjoy, I would 100% recommend coming along.
03:03Everyone can enjoy it, whether a beginner, novice or experienced. And they have wetsuits
03:07so you don't have to bring your own. How did you find it? It was great, we had a mixed
03:11group so some people had more experience and some had less and they were really good with
03:15all of them. I was probably the most rubbish. Behave, I know you weren't. The instructors
03:21were amazing, they were very good, they made you feel comfortable in the water, especially
03:25if you're not the most confident in the water. They made you feel safe, they gave a good
03:30explanation on how to do things and yeah, it was just a great wee day.
