00:00Have you seen this building before?
00:02The Elephant Tower, or as the locals call it, Tuk Chang, this quirky, yes, iconic building
00:07has been a part of Bangkok's skyline since 1997.
00:11But have you ever wondered why the architects decided to make it look like an elephant?
00:15Well, it's not just because an elephant is a symbol of Thailand, there's actually
00:20a deeper reason for that.
00:22The design of the Elephant Tower originated from the need to create a large office and
00:27residential building on a long, narrow plot of land.
00:30Due to land constraints, Dr. Arun Chaiseri initially designed three separate towers but
00:36later connected them at the top.
00:38Noticing the building's resemblance to an elephant, he added design elements to enhance
00:43its elephant-like appearance.
00:45In 2023, the building was listed among the 24 most bizarre and ugliest buildings in the
00:51world.
