00:00The Republican candidate and former U.S. President Donald Trump has already announced his victory.
00:05And he promised to make the United States strong again.
00:08What will be the effect of Trump's presidency in the Philippines?
00:12Let's find out in the national news of Alan Francisco of PTV Manila.
00:19The Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump has won the victory and returned to the White House
00:24after defeating the Democrats in the U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris.
00:29Nothing worth doing ever came easy.
00:32Treat the word impossible as nothing more than motivation.
00:37Never ever quit. Never quit.
00:40Adversity makes you stronger.
00:42Don't give in. Don't back down.
00:44And never stop doing what you know is right.
00:48This is Trump's return to the White House after four years of his term as President of the United States.
00:56Trump ran for his second term in 2020 but lost to President Joe Biden.
01:03November 5, 2024 will be Liberation Day in America.
01:08We all salute the same great American flag.
01:12Our best days are yet to come.
01:15Together we will make America great again.
01:20And with Trump's return, it is expected that it will have an impact on countries around the world, like the Philippines.
01:28If Philippine Ambassador to the United States Jose Manuel Bebrum-Waldes will ask,
01:33he will not see any changes in the alliance between the Philippines and the United States on defense.
01:39I was here during the time of President Trump.
01:42That alliance is really important for them because it's also in their interest.
01:48During the time of President Biden and President Marcos,
01:55we can see that the defense establishment will continue to go along that line.
02:01According to a political analyst, Professor Dindo Manhit,
02:05whoever won against Trump or Harris,
02:07there will be no change in the security and defense policy of the United States,
02:12especially in the West Philippine Sea.
02:14According to Manhit,
02:15the two parties are looking for a strong alliance in the Philippines.
02:19It will greatly help the administration of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.
02:25who is promoting the independent foreign policy.
02:28I'm confident that whatever party or whoever wins in the presidential election in the US,
02:35we can expect consistency in their security and defense policy.
02:41As for the military,
02:42they also do not see any change in the cooperation between the Philippines and the United States
02:47no matter who is the US President-elect.
02:58However, Ambassador Romualdez said,
03:00we need to monitor the effects of Trump's actions on the economy.
03:06In the economy, that's where we will have something to watch out for
03:10because the policy of former President Trump has changed
03:15because he wants to return all the business of America to the US companies that are operating in China.
03:22Ambassador Romualdez is confident that it is important for the United States
03:26to help the economy in Asia, especially in the Philippines.
03:30I'm still confident that our economic ties in the US will remain the same.
03:35Asia is still important for American business because it's a growing market.
03:41If our alliance is strong in defense,
03:44many American companies are more relaxed and confident about putting up businesses in the Philippines.
03:52As for the illegal Filipino immigrants in America,
03:57In the figures that we have,
04:00there are approximately 200,000 maximum of Filipino illegally staying in the United States.
04:11But most of them have already filed for consideration.
04:17We Filipinos are not like other illegal aliens here.
04:23It's different because the Filipinos here, number one,
04:27we're very much appreciated by a lot of the Americans in their districts.
04:34When I talk to congressmen and senators, they're very proud of the Filipino-American community.
04:39They are very sympathetic to us.
04:41I don't think that there will be really that intense type of thing that they'll go after Filipinos,
04:47Filipinos that are staying illegally here.
04:50But first and foremost, I always advise them that they need to voluntarily leave
04:57because if you really deport, you won't be able to return to America.
05:01From PTV, Alan Francisco, Balitang Pambansa.
