00:00Good evening from Bruges, where Villa's Champions League campaign suffered its first setback, a 1-0 defeat to Club Bruges in the most bizarre fashion imaginable.
00:12Tyrone Mings conceding a penalty, picking up the ball in his own box after Emi Martinez had taken a goal kick.
00:20Only Mings can explain what was going on in that moment, whether he didn't realise that Martinez had kicked the ball to him, whether he thought he was supposed to be taking the goal kick.
00:29It was a bit of a brain freeze really from Mings.
00:34Referee points to the spot, Hans van Kanen scores the goal, the first Villa to have conceded in the Champions League this season and 40 minutes later they fell to their first defeat.
00:50There will be all kinds of talk about the penalty, whether it should have been given.
00:55There was a similar incident, Arsenal last year in the Champions League weren't penalised and the referee at the time said he didn't think it would be a sporting thing in the spirit of the game to have given a penalty.
01:06But it is the rules, it is the letter of the law and yeah, just a really big mistake.
01:14But the fact is that the final result was more than fair.
01:17Bruges' goal might have come in out of bizarre circumstances but they thoroughly deserved the win.
01:22They were a better team, Villa were again, not for the first time, similar to the second half against Tottenham, were lethargic, lacking energy, seemed to be lacking a plan.
01:32Emery made five changes and it just never really got going.
01:40Having started pretty averagely, they got worse really as the game went on.
01:46Just one shot on target and no real attacks of note in the second half.
01:53If anything, Bruges deserved to win the game by more.
01:57Three straight defeats for Villa in a season that was going so well, just a fortnight ago, suddenly has hit a bit of a bump.
02:04And they go to Liverpool on Saturday, Premier League leaders, so the road only gets tougher.
02:08But it feels like Una Emery, from two weeks ago when everything was going perfectly, suddenly has problems to solve.
