This is the story of a young master from a wealthy family, studying in a provincial city at the beginning of the Republic of China period, towards the end of the Qing Dynasty. After the sudden death of his brother-in-law, he returns home immediately to attend the funeral. On the way back, he saves a girl from the forest. He then discovers that the girl is beautiful, so he brings her back to his mansion as a servant to help take care of his parents. The girl's name is Lei Niang. Over time, the young master and Lei Niang begin to develop feelings for each other. On their wedding night, Lei Niang becomes possessed by a ghost.
