Taiwan's delegation for this year's Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit has met with President Lai Ching-te before heading to the forum in Lima, Peru. The delegation is led by a former economic minister and presidential advisor, Lin Hsin-yi.

00:05forum happening next week.
00:07We welcome President Lai Ching-teh and the leader of the APEC 2024 delegation.
00:12I believe that under the leadership of the leader of the APEC 2024 delegation, the delegation
00:16will be able to complete its mission.
00:19Due to objections from China, President Lai Ching-teh himself is unable to attend, instead
00:24giving his best wishes to former economy minister and senior presidential adviser Lin
00:29Xinyi, who will head the delegation of officials and tech leaders heading to Peru next week.
00:36Lin represented Taiwan at APEC 2005 and has been chosen for his wide-ranging experiences
00:42in both the private and public sectors.
00:45He said APEC was a chance for Taiwan to use its tech prowess to promote sustainable economic
00:49growth in the Asia-Pacific, including for small enterprises, indigenous communities
00:55and economically disadvantaged groups.
00:58An experienced diplomat, Lin also hopes to create stronger ties with other economies
01:02in the region.
01:26The delegation is set to leave for Lima over the coming days, where they'll meet with leaders
01:32and representatives from 21 member states, representing over 60 percent of global GDP.
01:38With a successful resume in business, economy and diplomacy, there are hopes Lin's delegation
01:43can bring new business opportunities to Taiwan.
