00:00The 2024 presidential race ended yesterday,
00:04and this is what the country and the world woke up to this morning.
00:08Take a look.
00:09Welcome to WatchMojo, and today we're breaking down the reactions
00:12notable public figures have had to the 2024 United States presidential election,
00:17which saw Republican 45th President Donald Trump become the 47th,
00:21defeating Democratic candidate Vice President Kamala Harris.
00:24Please note, this video is unranked,
00:26with all celebs to follow listed in alphabetical order.
00:29Do I think Donald Trump is a perfect human being?
00:31No, I don't think anybody on this planet is a perfect human being, myself included.
00:37Adam McKay.
00:38It's just blowing through all parody, all satire.
00:44It's existing in this kind of Ralph Steadman-like zone
00:48that's so grotesque and preposterous and cartoonish.
00:52This outspoken filmmaker might be best known for his Will Ferrell-starring comedies,
00:55but after Election Day, Oscar winner McKay was hardly joking around.
00:59In a blunt assessment of the results,
01:01McKay posted to X that, quote,
01:03"...it is time to abandon the Dem Party.
01:05I'm registering Green Party or working families, but am open to ideas."
01:09If I woke up one morning and there was a headline that there was a campaign event
01:14and Trump swung around because he thought someone was grabbing him
01:17and he punched a baby and everyone was cool with it, I wouldn't be that shocked.
01:21Prior to those results being declared,
01:24the Anchorman and Big Short director posted the following question to X, quote,
01:28"...who would have guessed lying about Biden's cognitive health for two years,
01:31refusing to do an open convention for a new nominee,
01:34never mentioning public health care and embracing fracking,
01:37the Cheneys and a year-long slaughter of children in Gaza wouldn't be a winning strategy."
01:41This kind of Coke-Pepsi political system that we're ping-ponging between,
01:46where you have these just absurdly incompetent big-money lapdogs.
01:54I know that she's probably emotional right now.
01:58I know there's probably a lot going on in her mind, and I really...
02:03I know she's not listening to this, but she eventually will see it.
02:06Grammy-winning rapper Cardi B was a vocal Kamala Harris supporter in the months leading up to the
02:11election, despite her 2023 comments that chastised President Biden's military spending.
02:16The performer is no stranger to speaking out about left-wing issues close to her heart,
02:20having twice endorsed Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders for president,
02:23and frequently espousing the benefits of Medicare and Social Security.
02:27I just hope that she knows that no matter what happens tonight,
02:33that millions of people are proud of her.
02:36Cardi posted an effusive thank-you message to Harris after the results of the election
02:40had formally come in. In her letter, the rapper wrote that, quote,
02:43"...I never thought I would see the day that a woman of color would be running for
02:46the President of the United States, but you have shown me that anything is possible."
02:51She changed my mind. I feel like she was very honest.
02:54I feel like she said the things that I wanted to hear.
02:57Christina Applegate
02:58What do you say we go out on a date? Have some chicken, maybe some sex. You know, see what happens.
03:06Oh, let me get this over here.
03:11Whereas some public figures saw the opportunity to rise from the ashes Phoenix-style following
03:15Vice President Harris' electoral defeat, others saw only despair.
03:19Such was the case with Adam McKay's Anchorman star Christina Applegate,
03:23whose emotional ex-post about President-elect Trump's win stirred up controversy and resulted
03:27in the Emmy winner issuing a public apology. Invoking her 13-year-old daughter Sadie,
03:32Applegate wrote that, quote,
03:33"...my child is sobbing because her rights as a woman may be taken away.
03:37Why? And if you disagree, please unfollow me."
03:40After a series of fiery responses to ex-users who took issue with her posts,
03:44Applegate once again posted to ex, writing, quote,
03:47"...I apologize. I'm still reeling and sobbing, but I'm not angry anymore."
03:51Brick, are you saying that there's a party in your pants and that I'm invited?
03:56That's it.
03:58Did Brian tell you to say this, Brick?
04:00Yes, he did.
04:01Dave Portnoy
04:02He just didn't win. He won for fun. He won the electoral.
04:06He won the popular vote. He got more votes than last time he was president.
04:10A total ringing endorsement for the Republicans and Donald Trump.
04:15Of course, while Hollywood and California as a whole are famous for their typically
04:19left-leaning stances, not every celebrity holds pro-Democrat or left-wing views.
04:23Such was the case with podcaster, entrepreneur,
04:26and barstool sports founder Dave Portnoy,
04:28who had endorsed Donald Trump days before the November 5th election.
04:31People like myself, independents or moderates, the Democrats gave us no choice.
04:37The Democrats gave us no choice.
04:38That was the worst campaign.
04:40Posting to Instagram the morning of the 6th,
04:42Portnoy proclaimed that Trump's win stemmed from his supporters' disenchantment with the
04:46American political machine and that, quote,
04:49millions and millions and millions of people voted for Trump.
04:52He won clearly. He won decisively.
04:54Portnoy shared that he ultimately voted for the president-elect because, quote,
04:58I felt I had no choice but to vote for him because of the campaign that the Democrats ran.
05:02And their moral superiority have driven people away.
05:06If you say you're voting for Trump,
05:08suddenly you're a Nazi, you're Hitler, you're garbage. Enough.
05:12Ethel Cain
05:13I grew up on the yellow light on the street
05:17Putting too much faith in the make-believe
05:21Despite hailing from Florida,
05:22a state that has gone reliably red for the past several American presidential elections,
05:27indie singer-songwriter Cain, born Hayden Silas Horner,
05:30could hardly be described as a conservative.
05:32The alt-pop musician, whose upcoming album Perverts is due to be released in 2025,
05:37had some choice words for the president-elect and particularly his supporters.
05:47In a Tumblr post, hey, remember Tumblr,
05:49Cain wrote that, quote,
05:50I must say, if you voted for Trump, I hope that peace never finds you.
05:55Instead, I hope clarity strikes you someday like a clap of lightning,
05:58and you have to live the rest of your life with the knowledge and guilt of what you've done
06:02and who you are as a person.
06:14Because I moved to Puerto Rico in pursuit of becoming a world champion in my boxing career,
06:19I have rescinded my right to vote.
06:21But that doesn't mean I can't present my 80 million large audience
06:24with proper facts, numbers, and data to encourage them to vote.
06:28In what likely didn't come as a shock to those who have followed his career to date,
06:32the former Disney kid-turned-social-media-influencer-turned-professional-boxer
06:36had emphatically endorsed Donald Trump ahead of the election.
06:39Posting a 17-minute-long endorsement video to his ex-account just a few days prior,
06:43Paul, quote,
06:44said he supports Trump in spite of his persona because of his ability to get results,
06:48according to Yahoo Entertainment.
06:50Democrats have been in power for 12 of the last 16 years.
06:55So if we aren't happy with the current political state,
06:58economic state,
06:59environmental state,
07:01then who is to blame?
07:03Paul, once again posting to ex once Trump emerged victorious,
07:06attempted to extend an olive branch to non-believers,
07:09writing that, quote,
07:10I hope some can see that the truth won in this election.
07:13Voting for bad orange guy is an emotional decision and not the truth.
07:17Tim, I remind you that your running mate, Kamala Harris,
07:22is vice president, currently in the office,
07:25and hasn't done anything while she's in office.
07:29Jamie Lee Curtis.
07:30Morning, my name is Jamie Lee Curtis.
07:32I'm a proud, proud born and raised Los Angelina.
07:41The Oscar-winning Halloween in Everything Everywhere, All at One star posted a
07:45disappointed but spirited message to her fellow Harris supporters on Instagram.
07:49In the lengthy caption for her post,
07:51which depicts an illustration of a bald eagle carrying an American flag,
07:54Curtis wrote that, quote,
07:55It means a sure return to a more restrictive, some fear draconian time.
08:00Many fear their rights will be impeded and denied.
08:02Many minority groups and young people will be afraid.
08:05I'm proud to be the daughter of very ardent Democrats.
08:09My mother, Janet Lee and Tony Curtis were deeply devoted.
08:13However, it wasn't all doom and gloom.
08:15Curtis encouraged her followers to fight tyranny and that, quote,
08:19That's what it means to be an American.
08:21That's what it has always meant and will always mean regardless of the outcome.
08:25How do you make that decision?
08:27I want to make that decision based on someone's experience.
08:31John Cusack.
08:32So here's Trump, who's really an unmasked kind of like dangerous.
08:39I mean, he looks unhinged visually.
08:42The actor, who has never shied away from sharing left-wing political opinions on
08:46his social media accounts, was deeply troubled by President-elect Trump's win.
08:50In an ex-post that he appears to have since deleted, Cusack wrote that, quote,
08:54The fact that the country would choose to destroy itself by voting in a convicted
08:58felon is a sign of deep nihilism, to put it mildly, in reference to the 2024 ruling that
09:04found Trump guilty of falsifying business records for hush money.
09:07What he's saying is unhinged.
09:09And then he contradicts himself, and it doesn't even matter.
09:12So he's sort of like the GOP or the celebrity culture unmasked.
09:18Cusack later posted quotes by writer Chris Hedges, who said that, quote,
09:22Trump expresses a childish yearning to be an omnipotent god.
09:26This yearning resonates with Americans who feel they have been treated like human refuse.
09:30He's short attention span, fame-seeking, money-worshipping culture unmasked.
09:38So it's interesting in a way.
09:41Stephen King.
09:42The last time I was here, I had a president who had just given me a
09:46National Medal of the Arts thing, which we argued over.
09:50Yeah.
09:51And now we've got a president who blocked me on Twitter.
09:54This iconic horror author, whose books have been adapted into a seemingly countless number
09:58of hit movies, has often posted to social media about his hatred for Trump.
10:02In fact, in 2016, King was one of a host of authors who signed a public letter denouncing Trump.
10:08Except the court says he can't block anybody.
10:12So my question is, do I really want to follow that guy?
10:16I don't think so.
10:18After Election Day 2024, King's response was simple and straightforward, but no less urgent.
10:23Comparing the state of American democracy to an antique shop, the Maine native wrote that,
10:28quote,
10:28There's a sign you can see in many shops that sell beautiful but fragile items.
10:32Lovely to look at.
10:33Delightful to hold.
10:34But once you break it, then it's sold.
10:36You can say the same about democracy.
10:39I might have said he had his head somewhere where a certain yoga position would be necessary
10:45to get it there.
10:46And that was it, man.

11:04The hosts of ABC's The View.
11:06My takeaway is that the system works.
11:09We live in a democracy.
11:11People spoke.
11:13This is what people wanted.
11:15I vehemently disagree with the decision that Americans made.
11:19This long-running talk show has a complicated relationship with the president-elect that
11:23stretches back to his time before he ran for office.
11:25Trump, who many originally knew as a New York real estate developer and later as a reality
11:30show star, had often appeared on The View, outwardly chummy with the show's hosts,
11:34including Whoopi Goldberg.
11:35Is it the outcome I wanted?
11:37No.
11:37But we live in a democracy.
11:39I have my vote.
11:40Millions of people cast their votes, did.
11:42And what's important to me is this.
11:44Tens of millions of Americans, our friends, our neighbors, our family members, voted for
11:49Donald Trump.
11:50However, as the Republican politician noted during his appearance on the Joe Rogan Experience,
11:55that relationship soured quickly once Trump's unsavory comments about women,
11:58minorities, and more began to trickle out.
12:01After the results of the 2024 election came in, Goldberg defiantly refused to use the
12:06president-elect's name and praised Vice President Harris' whirlwind presidential campaign.
12:11Everybody can always say, oh, she should have done this.
12:14She should have done this.
12:15She did what she did.
12:16She was everywhere.
12:17She talked to everybody.
12:19And people didn't come out.
12:20I don't know why.
12:21And it doesn't even matter.
12:23He's now the president.
12:24I'm still not going to say his name.
12:26Are there any other celeb reactions to the 2024 U.S. presidential election that we missed?
