00:00The Department of Transportation is studying some changes in EDSA Busway following the latest violations there,
00:06just like an SUV that used a peking plaque as a senator.
00:11We have a report from Joseph Moro.
00:15The driver of this controversial white luxury vehicle explained to the Land Transportation Office
00:21that he is sick and he is in a hurry.
00:24Last Sunday night, he entered the northbound lane of the EDSA Busway.
00:28But the MMDA's CCTV footage showed that it's not heavy.
00:31The traffic at that time was outside the busway.
00:34The driver was fined P1,000.
00:37Transportation Secretary Jaime Bautista said that they are investigating the incident
00:41to find out if there is any additional compensation.
00:44The SUV used the protocol plate 7 as a senator.
00:47In the driver's collision, the vehicle was taken out by the owner of Orient Pacific Corporation,
00:52a company led by Kenneth Tangatchalian, a running congressman in Valenzuela.
00:57He is a brother of Senator Sherwin Gatchalian.
00:59Is he your brother or is he your stepbrother?
01:02The documents are already in the LTO, so let's just leave it in the LTO.
01:07Is it possible that you have the plate, but you just used it?
01:11Let's just leave it in the LTO, guys.
01:13In a statement, Gatchalian said that he does not consent to the traffic violation
01:18of the Orient Pacific Corporation.
01:20Senator Rafi Tulfo, chairman of the Senate Committee on Public Services,
01:24plans to call for a hearing on the issue.
01:26The DOTR is studying some changes in the EDSA busway,
01:30especially since it is becoming a threat to the people who want to escape from the traffic in EDSA.
01:35It is also a way to reduce the protocol plates issued by the government officials.
01:40Two protocol plates are being issued to each senator.
01:43The plate is to be used only by the official.
01:51It is the decision of the SP. I think the SP will know the best.
01:56The Department of Transportation has also considered reversing the EDSA bus carousel.
02:02For example, instead of the EDSA bus carousel,
02:05the northbound buses will be converted to the southbound bus carousel.
02:10This is to prevent the carousel from being damaged.
02:13The busway is exclusive for the buses, for public utility vehicles.
02:21The bus door is also on the right side.
02:24There are also safety considerations.
02:29They are talking to the companies that operate the busway
02:32and it may be a decision to continue this before the year ends.
