00:00Good morning, my name is Phil Hewitt, Group Arts Editor at Sussex Newspapers. Really nice
00:07this morning to speak to Nathan. Now, Nathan, you have a really exciting play on tour, solo
00:12show, Boring Techno Makeout Jams, and it's heading to Chichester's Minerva Theatre from
00:18November the 21st of 23rd. It's a play that's really transformed your life. It started very
00:24small, didn't it, and has become the fourth piece. Tell me about that transformation.
00:29Yeah, so it started as a three minute monologue, which was just performed for a monologue competition
00:35in the hope of me kind of putting myself as an actor in front of more faces. And then
00:40from that, it went to the national final of the same monologue competition. And that's
00:45where it kind of led into people being interested in my writing, as opposed to my acting. And
00:52then with that, it went through a couple of other kind of like, actual writing prizes
00:57as I started to develop it further. So there's the Pint Size Plays, which gets your play
01:02shared at the Bunker Theatre, which was in London. And then there was also a thing called
01:07Four of a Kind, which was run by Wildcard Theatre, which got a sharing at Vaults, that
01:11unfortunately got stopped because of COVID. So it never ended up happening. And during
01:15COVID, I didn't really do much work on the play. But then coming out of it, I kind of
01:20decided towards the end of 2021 and start 2022, I decided I was gonna actually push
01:25myself to finish this play, because it's already...
01:28Fantastic. Now it's heading our way. Tell me, what's the play all about, would you say?
01:33What are you saying in this piece?
01:35The play's kind of been, not by myself, but by others, has been titled as a one man romantic
01:40odyssey. So it kind of follows a character who I think, believes in romance and thinks
01:46romance is everything that will fix his life. But actually, he needs love. And in looking
01:53for love, he's looking in all the wrong places.
01:56Love and romance being different things.
01:59Yeah, I think the idea of romance and the idea of love, because I think romance is something
02:04that you gain from people, but love is something that you can get from anywhere. You can get
02:08that from friends, you can get that from family. And I think that's kind of at the heart of
02:13the play. And yeah, he goes through, as he's going through this journey of thinking, once
02:19he finds the person, everything in his life will come together. His life's actually kind
02:22of falling apart at the seams. But within that, it's very humorous. It's very joyful.
02:26It's a lot of fun.
02:27Fantastic. And it's coming to the Minerva in Georgetown from November 21st to the 23rd.
02:32Nathan, good to speak to you. Congratulations.
02:34Thank you very much.
02:36Cheers. Bye.
