00:00What do you make of it?
00:01Um, okay, yeah, ultimately it's going to be an organizational decision because he was
00:05supposed to be on his bi-week.
00:06They've given him basically the entire week off.
00:08I do believe as soon as the trade was consummated that they sent the PDF file and said, okay,
00:15here's our defensive playbook.
00:16Here's the calls.
00:17They probably gave him the abbreviated cheat sheet of these are the ones that are most
00:22important to you.
00:23Master these.
00:24When you come in, we'll go over.
00:25If you have any questions, give us a, give us a call, shoot us a text and we'll go over
00:29everything.
00:30You're going to be just fine.
00:31He's a vet.
00:32He's a pro.
00:33He's always been a guy that is known as he's, he's taking care of business and he's going
00:37to come in and I showed you this earlier.
00:39I'll show you it again.
00:41They're basically the defensive playbook is, can be simple.
00:45All right.
00:46On page one, there's a picture of a football and the next page, it just says, go get it.
00:54All right.
00:55And as an edge rusher, that's coming in, in this situation, that's what you're asking
01:01him to do is just go get it.
01:04Go get the ball.
01:05Go get CJ Stroud.
01:06Yeah.
01:07There is some intricacies.
01:08We talk about rush plans and different things that are going on and he needs to know where
01:13blitzes are coming from.
01:14He's obviously going to have to see a Houston film to pick up tendencies, but again, there's
01:20going to be a cheat sheet for him.
01:22He'll do his business.
01:23I 100% think he's playing on Sunday.
01:26Yeah.
01:27Because to me, I looked at it and thought, Hey, we're going to get you some one-on-ones.
01:31Even if you're only playing, I don't know, 40% of the snaps, you can help us this week.
01:35We got practice squad guys.
01:36If it's not you, you'd think, yeah, give them some one-on-ones, hit them with your best
01:41move.
01:42See if you can get to the quarterback, not to oversimplify it.
01:44Clearly they'll have twists and stunts.
01:46You do have to know gap responsibility in the run game alignment in certain down and
01:50distance and personnel groupings, but the idea that he wouldn't play, I, I hadn't even
01:56considered that.
01:57I hadn't either.
01:58And, you know, I know you went through the play charts and he's right around 50, 55,
02:05maybe even up to 70% of the game in the script.
02:09Yep.
02:10I would expect him to be, you know, nearer 40, 45, not going to be out there as much
02:14as he will be in the future.
02:17But I, he's a guy that he's going to understand down a distance.
02:22He's going to understand all of those.
02:23You don't get to be a eight, nine, 10 year vet without doing your due diligence before
02:28you go into a game on the flip side as well.
02:32This is a showcase game.
02:34It's it's Sunday night football.
02:35The entire country will be watching.
02:38One of the greatest storylines has been you lost touch.
02:41You go three and oh, but you don't put pressure on opposing quarterbacks.
02:44Now you're playing against CJ Stroud.
02:46He's a mobile quarterback.
02:47You go on the trade deadline, do something that Brad Holmes hasn't done.
02:50You added at the trade deadline, who'd you add the best available pass rusher.
02:56He's going to want to show off.
02:58The lions are going to want to show him off.
03:01Both sides are going to want to want to have him on the field.
03:04And the Texans, by the way, are not doing a good job protecting CJ Stroud gave up eight
03:08sacks in their Thursday night game against the Jets.
03:11The last game they played and you go, okay, that's just one bad day.
03:14If you take the last three and add them up, they've given up 13 sacks over the last three
03:19games.
03:20This is what the lions have been waiting for a chance to get home.
03:23And so Darius Smith is going to be a guy off the edge that can do it.
