00:00The outback town of Silverton has a population below 50, a perfect option for this couple
00:08from the New South Wales Southern Highlands searching for a place to live out their farm
00:12life dream.
00:13I can look out my window today and I can see cows walking past which is owned by the community
00:19or the horses and the donkeys just up the road.
00:25The Greens discovered Silverton during a caravan trip across the state.
00:29They arrived to find their future home up for sale.
00:32She let us stay for a couple of nights, test drive the house, stayed in, walked around,
00:36met a couple of the locals and just sort of went from there.
00:39The couple has been living in Silverton since August and have adjusted to days filled with
00:43gardening, catching up with locals and the occasional drink at the nearby pub.
00:49The move has also helped their daughter who was struggling to find a place to live.
00:54One thing that we could do was if we got a house that was still in our price range we
00:59could keep the family home still and she could use it and look after it and she'd have safety
01:04there.
01:05New research from the Australian Housing and Urban Research Institute shows as well as
01:09employment and lifestyle reasons, housing affordability is increasingly becoming a key
01:14reason people are moving to regional areas.
01:17Conrad Brown and Shona Collins moved from the Gold Coast to Wakanya, they too leaving
01:23behind a home for their adult daughter.
01:26She puts in lots of hours and she's worked really, really hard but there's always having
01:31your children and the expenses with that and food.
01:35The couple now runs a cafe in the remote town and say the locals in Wakanya have made them
01:40feel more than welcome.
01:42The people are just beautiful in this town, their hearts, they come out, they smile all
01:46the time and they're just happy to see you and I think food's to their heart as well.
01:50Showing home is where the heart is in the Outback.
