00:00Every year CESBI presents the Italian edition of the Global Hunger Index.
00:09We have reached the 19th edition and this year the outlines traced by this index are quite alarming.
00:19Let us remember that the international community has set itself a goal by 2030,
00:27which is the goal of zero hunger.
00:30And with the current rhythms of contrast to malnutrition,
00:35in reality we will not only reach the goal of zero hunger by 2030,
00:41but probably with this progress we will reach it by 2160.
00:46And in reality we do not have 166 years to be able to counter hunger.
00:53Climate crisis and conflicts have increased the levels of malnutrition of more than 200 million people.
01:03More than 60% of people who suffer from hunger are women.
01:12And women have a central role in the mental health processes of their families.
01:21They also have a central role in the food security of their children,
01:29who are already at risk in the early days of life, even before birth.
01:34The Global Hunger Index has this peculiarity of analyzing specifically
01:41the infant malnutrition, infant mortality levels,
01:45working and acting to reduce and allow equal opportunities for women and men
01:52in decision-making processes, in access to resources,
01:57and by resources I mean land, I mean access to microcredit, to finance,
02:05I also mean access to services, for example to education or health services.
02:13To act in an interconnected way, with interconnected policies,
02:19to reduce gender inequalities would also allow to reduce inequalities in access to food.
02:30We at CESVI experience this every day in our interventions.
02:36We pay particular and transversal attention to access to food that is safe
02:49and in sufficient quantities for women and children,
02:54in any context, in the context of poverty, in the context of conflict,
03:01in countries affected by climatic impacts and extreme weather events.
