00:00This is the beginning of the end.
00:02I know.
00:03Gosh, how are you feeling heading into the final hurrah for Yellowstone?
00:08It's been a tough adjustment, I've got to say.
00:11Continuing to process this big, huge part of my life being over.
00:14How would you describe what fans are in for?
00:18Oh man, I would say, you know, it's only six episodes.
00:21So, pay attention and buckle up. It goes fast.
00:26Starts at a 10 and ends at an 11.
00:28This knife wears my blood.
00:31This knife wears my...
00:32And action!
00:34How emotional were those final days on set and shooting those scenes?
00:39You know, they happened really fast.
00:40It's one of those things, you kind of just, we started shooting the final season
00:44and you blinked and it was over.
00:46And, you know, I'm taking goodbye pictures with everyone
00:50and my last day was with Kelsey and Brecken.
00:53Well, the scenes themselves were very emotional, so that sort of helped, you know.
00:57We were kind of actually in a good headspace to do the scenes.
01:00I can't really say much about what they are, but...
01:03But there were tissues nearby because you were already crying.
01:05Yeah, for sure.
01:07It just got us sort of, you know, in the moment.
01:10But yeah, I think, I keep saying it's like the summer camp blues, you know.
01:14It's like that last time when all your friends go away and you're like, you know,
01:17you're just kind of sitting at home by yourself like, where is everybody?
01:19But, yeah, the one thing I do know is like, I will, I'll always have the show.
01:25I can sit and watch the show whenever I want and relive this over and over again, so that's good.
01:30I think you do something like this this long and something that's become this important to you
01:36and those friendships last.
01:37I don't think, I'll see these people, you know, over and over again.
01:41You know, when you look back at the years and the magnitude of what this show
01:46has been able to accomplish, I know you've done amazing things in your career,
01:51but where does this rank amongst everything?
01:53Oh, absolutely number one.
01:55I think, you know, if I think of any job I've ever done in terms of, you know,
02:00what it's meant to me, what it's sort of done for my life, you know,
02:05how much I loved a character, a cast, a crew,
02:08it's absolutely the most important and fulfilling creative thing I've ever done.
02:12There's been so much secrecy, of course, with these final episodes.
02:17What were you allowed to know heading into the final hurrah?
02:22I had the scripts. I was one of the lucky ones.
02:24So I got to read everything before we started.
02:27I almost wanted to hold off on reading the very last script because I didn't want to know.
02:30And then the night before we started shooting episode one,
02:34I just couldn't sort of lock back in.
02:36It had been two years and, you know, after that amount of time,
02:39like how do I find this guy again?
02:41So I read the last one and I was a mess.
02:45It was, as everyone will see, it's very, very profound and very powerful.
02:50Tell us how you really feel.
02:52But it was worth it.
02:53I think, you know, I've watched television shows before where you invest all this time
02:57and then you get to the end and it feels like you wasted your time.
03:01And we definitely don't do that here.
03:04So you're saying the fans will be very happy with how it looks, don't you?
03:07I hope so. I think they will and I hope they are.
03:09What I'm doing isn't for the ranch. It's for us.
03:12With Kevin Costner gone, this season focuses on a battle between Beth and Jamie
03:17with Casey stuck in the middle.
03:19It all begins Sunday on Paramount Network.
03:22I will say that Casey's always just been in a different world than those two.
03:27You never really see Casey and Beth together.
03:30You've barely seen, you know, Casey and Jamie have had a couple scenes over the years,
03:34but all of the worlds sort of collide this season,
03:37so you're going to see a lot of all of them together.
03:40How far will they go to take each other down?
03:45All the way? I don't know.
03:47I know what to do. Believe in me.
03:49I've always believed in you.
03:51Where do we pick up with Casey and Monica?
03:55Pretty much where we left off from season five.
03:58That's a great answer.
03:59Like right there.
04:00They're talking about going and looking at this new house.
04:04Clearly that's been a thing for them throughout the whole show, the whole series.
04:07They don't know where they belong, they don't have a ranch or the reservation.
04:11And so they find a home.
04:13That's this place called East Camp, and we kept calling it HGTV
04:18because you're just watching them sort of make this house into a home for a while.
04:23Okay.
04:24And it starts to feel like maybe they found their spot.
04:27And could the cameras continue to follow them in this new spot, maybe?
04:32If there were a spinoff, would you be open to it?
04:36Absolutely, yeah, yeah.
04:38If Taylor were writing it, yes.
04:41In my vision, the choice that I saw was between this place and you.
04:48Maybe this is the way we have both.
04:51What do you hope Casey and Monica's legacy is?
04:54Because outside of Rip and Beth, they are really a couple that the world has fallen in love with.
05:01Yeah, I mean I guess you watch their relationship through the seasons,
05:05and the one thing that's sort of...
05:08The problem is that they can never find where they belong,
05:12and because of that they can never find happiness.
05:14You know, they have love.
05:16They love each other unconditionally, but they can't find peace.
05:20And so I guess that's what I always hoped for them,
05:24is that they would find their happy ending.
05:26Do they? At the end of these episodes?
05:28I can't say that.
05:30I signed things.
05:31I know, right?
05:32My phone will ring right now.
05:34As for Luke's real-life happy ending,
05:36well, he's currently working on a new album.
05:39Filming the show actually inspired him to move to Montana four years ago,
05:43and he's embracing his newest role.
05:45Dad to a six-week-old baby boy.
05:47Congratulations.
05:50How is it going? A smile on your face says it all.
05:52I mean, it's amazing.
05:54It's amazing and hard.
05:57No one can prepare you for that first month, you know?
06:01You know, I feel like my heart grows every day,
06:04and I'm just, like, madly in love with the little guy.
06:07So we're doing great.
06:09What has been your favorite part of fatherhood so far?
06:12It's bringing my wife and I a lot closer in a really interesting way.
06:16You know, we're becoming a team in a way that I didn't foresee
06:22or didn't know that was possible.
06:24What duties are you picking up?
06:25Are you on diaper duty?
06:26Because it's a team. It's a teamwork.
06:28How to do diaper duty.
06:30You know, because she's kind of doing everything else.
06:32I can't feed him. I can't do any of that.
06:36So I do what I can.
06:40Does he like Dad's music?
06:41I hope so. I can't tell yet.
06:44I'm also not shoving it on him just yet.
06:46Give him some time.
06:47What's inspiring the music these days?
06:49Clearly having a kid.
06:53So is this a lullaby album?
06:56I won't get too mushy.
06:58Yeah, I mean, not only the love,
07:01but just a lot of sort of big profound feelings
07:04that I'm sort of going through
07:07and thinking about my own parents and things like that.
07:10So yeah, it's bringing up a lot of stuff.
07:12You have to, of course, head out on tour.
07:14Is he going to come with? How are you going to...
07:16He's going to come to the Grand Ole Opry.
07:20I feel like I may want to bring him out.
07:23Give him his Opry debut as well.
07:25Oh, he for sure has to follow in your footsteps
07:28then one day in music.
07:30He can be whatever he wants,
07:31but he will definitely be getting guitars and drum sets
07:34and things for birthdays very early on.
07:36What about in front of the camera?
07:38Would you want him to act as well?
07:41Oh man, that's...
07:43I'd much rather him be a musician, to be honest.
07:45Why is that?
07:47Just because acting is such a tough business.
07:50So is music.
07:51I'm learning that now.
07:52I'm new in the business of music,
07:54but music is something that I think
07:56you can do it by yourself in your room.
07:59You can't film or television act by yourself.
08:03You've got to be in it.
08:05You're a part of a huge machine,
08:07and sometimes it can be a really hard thing.
08:09If he wanted to, I would support him and try to help him,
08:12but I'd much rather him be a musician.
