00:00What lies beyond, under skies I've never seen?
00:06Welcome to Ms. Mojo,
00:07and today we're counting down our picks for our wish list for Moana 2.
00:14Can I get a chee-hoo?
00:18Number 10.
00:19Gramma Tala's Spirit
00:20Gramma Tala may be the soul of Moana.
00:23She helps her granddaughter find her inner fire.
00:25The village may think I'm crazy or say that I drift too far,
00:30but once you know what you like, well there you are.
00:36She's got that carefree, wild spirit the village might call crazy,
00:39but honestly she was always just living her best uninhibited life.
00:43Gramma Tala gives Moana the push to really listen to the ocean's call,
00:46and realizes that it comes from inside of her through her strong-heartedness.
00:50Restore the heart of Te Fiti.
00:53I was there that day. The ocean chose you.
01:01Even after she passes, her spirit stays with Moana as a source of wisdom and courage.
01:06Did you catch her cameo in the new trailer? We hope this means she's back to fulfill her role
01:10as Moana's spiritual guide, reminding her to look within herself once more to find
01:15that incredible strength.
01:17I will carry you here in my heart. You remind me that love was made. I know the way.
01:29Number 9. More of Maui's magical transformations.
01:33Speaking of Gramma Tala, she opens Moana with an epic story about Maui and the heart of Te Fiti.
01:38A shapeshifter who could change form with the power of his magical fish hook.
01:44And his name was Maui.
01:50If only it hadn't scared so many kids to tears, perhaps we could have learned more about Maui's
01:55backstory and what he was doing during his hermit years. Here's hoping the sequel elaborates more
02:00on the demigod's past.
02:02Somehow, I was found by the gods. They gave me the hook. They made me Maui.
02:10We're also super eager to see more of Maui's interactions with his tattoos,
02:14but most of all, we're excited for more animalistic transformations.
02:18Be ready to switch it up. This is serious!
02:21Is something distracting you?
02:23Those were some of the funniest moments, especially when they hilariously backfired.
02:27We can't wait to see what creatures he turns into this time.
02:30Maybe we'll spot a Disney wildlife friend. Looking at you, Sven.
02:34Giant hawk, come on!
02:41Number 8. Environmental Conservation.
02:46In Moana, the themes of environmental destruction and our roles in both causing and fixing it
02:51runs through the story like a strong current.
02:54Her heart held the greatest power ever known. It could create life itself.
03:01And Te Fiti shared it with the world.
03:05The film teaches us to respect and nurture our environment,
03:08beautifully shown through Te Fiti and her alter ego, Te Ka.
03:11Now, about eight years later, climate change is still a serious issue,
03:15and many warnings seem to go unheard.
03:17Chasing away our fish, draining the life from island after island,
03:23until every one of us is devoured by the bloodthirsty jaws of inescapable gas!
03:32We're hopeful that Moana 2 will explore Moana's connection with the ocean more deeply,
03:36and the importance of the human-nature relationship.
03:39After all, the first film showed how trying to override nature drove the islands apart.
03:44This sequel is about bringing them back together,
03:46and hopefully it will promote a sustainable environment for all.
03:49What I did was wrong. I have no excuse. I'm sorry.
03:57Number 7. Some New Voyagers.
03:59We're excited to reunite with some of the original crew.
04:03With a little sister now in the picture,
04:05Moana's parents and neighbors might get more time in the spotlight, too.
04:08Moana!
04:10Little sis!
04:11Big sis!
04:13You were gone forever.
04:15It was three days.
04:17This new tale reportedly takes place three years after we last left Motunui.
04:21Moana answers a question from a friend,
04:23and Moana answers a question from another friend.
04:25Moana, I'm so sorry.
04:28Moana answers a call from her ancestors,
04:33and sets out to save the people of another island,
04:36who are imprisoned by a curse from the god Nalo.
04:38She assembles a new crew for this adventure,
04:41and after her last journey with Maui,
04:43we can't wait to see how they help and challenge her.
04:45A larger crew will surely bring a tidal wave of fun to the story.
04:49I'm gonna need a crew.
04:50Sweet!
04:51A farmer on the sea!
04:53Yes!
04:54I'm going with Moana!
04:55Woo!
04:57Number six.
04:58Expanding on Polynesian mythology.
05:00In the first film, we're introduced to Te Fiti, the goddess of nature,
05:04who represents a group of Polynesian deities that care for our planet.
05:09In the beginning, there was only ocean.
05:13Until the mother island emerged, Te Fiti.
05:19We also meet Maui, a demigod based on legendary tales.
05:22The sequel will introduce new gods like Nalo,
05:25who, as we said, brings a curse to the island of Motuwhetu,
05:28and Matangi, the goddess of the underworld.
05:31While we're eager to get to know these new gods,
05:34we don't think Te Fiti's story should be over yet either.
05:37Humor could never break my curse.
05:40Now I kind of miss the lava monster.
05:41In mythology, Maui meets his fate at the hands of the goddess of death,
05:45although Disney will likely avoid that tale.
05:48Still, they could celebrate Polynesian culture and traditions
05:51through these deities and their stories.
05:53Our ancestors wanted to connect our island to all the people of the entire ocean.
06:00It's my job as a wayfinder to finish what they started.
06:06Number five, the roots of Motunui.
06:09Moana touched upon the history of Motunui with the opening tale about Maui.
06:13We learn how his actions changed the tides for nearby islands.
06:16We tried.
06:18The windward side?
06:19And the leeward side, the shallows, the channel.
06:22We've tried the whole lagoon.
06:24They're just gone.
06:25However, Moana's core identity remains linked to her people's history as wayfinding voyagers.
06:31One of her father's biggest fears was losing his daughter,
06:33like he lost some of his people to the vast ocean.
06:35But what really happened to them?
06:37What if they're still out there?
06:39Are there other islands with similar tales?
06:41Away, away, we keep our island in our mind.
06:46And when it's time to find home, we'll know the way.
06:50Moana showed she's a natural-born leader,
06:53and we believe her leadership significantly shaped her island's culture.
06:56This movie offers a chance to see how the past
06:59and present come together in a rich tapestry of stories.
07:02Away, away, we are explorers reading every sign.
07:07We tell the stories of our elders in a never-ending chain.
07:12Number four.
07:14Throwbacks to the original and Easter eggs.
07:16One of our favorite aspects of the modern Disney universe
07:19is how it interconnects with cleverly placed Easter eggs.
07:22Can we be real?
07:23If my name was Sebastian and I had a cool Jamaican accent,
07:26you'd totally help me.
07:28You would, you know you would.
07:29We mentioned Sven earlier,
07:31and he's not the only frozen character to make an appearance.
07:34Olaf, is that you?
07:36Oh, look at that.
07:38I've been impaled.
07:40We also spotted Genie's lamp, a quick cameo from Flounder,
07:43and, of course, classic Mickey Mouse, among other surprises.
07:47Since this is a sequel, we expect some throwbacks to the original movie.
07:51The trailer hints at how the story links back to the first film.
07:54Moana showed our people just how far we'll go.
07:58Plus, we're curious to see how much Moana influenced those around her.
08:01For starters, is that a new tattoo on Maui?
08:04We can't wait to see Moana's little sister inherit her love for the ocean, either.
08:08The ocean connects us.
08:12There is nowhere I could go that I won't be with you.
08:16So you can take a piece from home.
08:19Number three.
08:20Digging deeper and expanding on Polynesian cultures.
08:23Did you know that while Motunui is a fictional island,
08:26it's inspired by real places like Hawaii, Samoa, Tonga, and Tahiti?
08:30We're here to feed inside.
08:32We sing these songs in our choirs.
08:34We have lots to feed inside.
08:35The village believes in us.
08:36That's right.
08:37The village believes.
08:39The island gives us what we need.
08:41Some even believe that the story takes place during the Long Pause,
08:45a mysterious time in Polynesian history when voyaging just stopped.
08:48The original movie offers a creative explanation,
08:51ending with the islanders getting back to their sea adventures.
08:54Monsters lurked and boats stopped coming back
08:58to protect our people.
09:00The ancient chiefs forbid voyaging, and now we have forgotten who we are.
09:06Now that they're back on the open ocean,
09:07it's the perfect time to explore even more Polynesian cultures.
09:11Disney has done such an amazing job showcasing diverse traditions
09:14in movies like Coco and Kanto, Turning Red and Luca.
09:18Here's hoping Moana 2 brings that same magic to life.
09:21I love that Moana still has this impact,
09:24and I think that audiences are in for something incredibly special.
09:32Number two, New Adventures.
09:34Based on the trailer, Moana is taking her mission to new depths,
09:38aiming to use the ocean to connect distant communities.
09:41This is a call from the ancestors.
09:44Hidden in a terrible storm, it's an ancient island.
09:48Setting foot on its sands would break the curse, bring our people together again.
09:52But it's clear the journey won't be smooth sailing.
09:55We catch glimpses of new challengers like Matangi,
09:58a mysterious character who definitely has us intrigued.
10:01It'll be harder than anything we faced before.
10:05If you try to reconnect the people of the ocean, you will be destroyed.
10:09Plus, some old nemeses are back, like the creepy Kakamora.
10:13Also this time, Moana's crew is much larger than just her, Maui, and Heihei,
10:17and that's a whole other group dynamic we can't wait to get into.
10:21You're gonna love it.
10:22I don't love anything.
10:24I'm gonna eat this chicken.
10:25Needless to say, we see some rough waters up ahead.
10:28All this just makes for an exciting premise as she ventures beyond the barrier
10:32and into uncharted waters once more.
10:34Finally, we're back to who we're meant to be.

10:56Number 1.
10:57Hooking audiences on a tidal wave of island beats.
11:00Let's be honest, the Moana soundtrack has no skips, thanks to Lin-Manuel Miranda's genius.
11:05If the wind in my sail on the sea stays behind me,
11:10one day I'll know how far I'll go.
11:20So when we found out that he wouldn't be reuniting with composers Mark Mancina
11:24and Opataya Fawaii for the sequel, we had our doubts.
11:27But with Emily Bear and Abigail Barlow now taking the helm,
11:30the new soundtrack can continue honoring the film's Polynesian roots
11:34while making its own waves, too.
11:36Our music team, Barlow and Bear, have really knocked it out of the park.
11:39We wanted to strike a balance between keeping the music in the world that already exists,
11:43but also adding our Barlow and Bear flair.
11:45This Grammy-winning duo from the unofficial Bridgerton musical has some serious talent.
11:50I burn, I burn for you.
11:57With incredible individual and joint credits and a fresh approach,
12:01they're one of the most exciting teams in music.
12:04We can't wait to hear beyond the trailer snippets
12:06and see just how far they'll go to create an unforgettable sound.
12:10You might want to hold on.
