With Australia planning to ban social media for under-16s, we ask Birmingham residents if they have concerns about children using social media. Should the UK consider similar restrictions to protect young users?

00:00A good question. Social media for under-16s. I think social media has its place and as we move
00:05into a very high-tech world, I really do think those who are under-16s are part of that high-tech
00:12world. We can't ban them from it but we need to obviously have good legislation in place to keep
00:17them safe because we also know social media is a very dangerous and very, I would say,
00:24unforgiving place. So it has affected social skills as well. So a lot of children, rather
00:31than having social skills, they sort of sit at home in their rooms on social media and I think
00:36that is affecting social cohesion as well. There's good and bad with social media of course
00:42but the bad with the young children, it can lead them to some terrible things,
00:48bullying etc and people, you know, young children taking their lives unnecessarily.
00:53Yes and I do think we ought to consider banning it for our children as well. Seriously do, yeah.
