The Reed Warbler is a small brown bird that loves hanging about in wetlands, especially where there are lots of reeds. These clever little birds are brilliant at weaving their nests, which they attach to several reed stems - quite impressive engineering for such a tiny creature! They spend their summers here in Britain and other parts of Europe, before heading off to Africa for the winter (can't blame them, really). During breeding season, the males sing their hearts out with a chattery, rhythmic song that you'll often hear before you spot the bird itself. They're about the size of a sparrow and feed mainly on insects they find amongst the reeds. Despite being quite common in suitable habitats, they can be tricky to spot as they're quite shy and their brown colouring helps them blend in perfectly with their surroundings.
