00:00A fortuitous trip helped a Chinese national avoid losing her apartment after discovering
00:07that her signature had been forged.
00:10This was revealed by Public Services and Complaints Department head Datuk Sri Michael Chong during
00:15a press conference on Thursday.
00:17We believe not only she is the victim, we believe many victims because among mortals
00:25that he will forge signature, she will forge people's signature and gain the money, okay?
00:33The 46-year-old victim, who only wished to be known as Madam C, purchased a condominium
00:38unit on Jalan Tun Razak in 2018.
00:41She was persuaded to do business with a supposed Chinese national with PR status in Malaysia,
00:48believing she would receive a Malaysia My Second Home visa and send her son to study
00:52here.
00:53But an investigation revealed that the Chinese national had attempted to sell the unit using
00:58the forged signature.
01:17She said, during the movement control order at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, she
01:22was unable to travel to Malaysia.
01:24She authorised the Chinese national as her agent to renovate and furnish the unit as
01:29she could not do so herself.
01:32When she came back to Malaysia earlier this year, she was shocked to find that the unit
01:36was not furnished as specified and was occupied by a tenant.
01:40The tenant presented a tenancy agreement bearing a forged signature of hers, diverting rent
01:45money to the agent instead.
01:53Attempts to contact the agent have been unsuccessful.
02:22Further checks revealed that the agent was not an employee of the supposed China-based
02:26bank he claimed to represent.
02:28Chong said the department has instructed their lawyer to assist the victim with the issue,
02:33and a police report was lodged in October.
