Christmas is in full swing here in Newcastle, with the Christmas lights switch on taking place, hosted by Steve and Karen from hits radio. I spoke with the publics on there thoughts on the lights and if they’ve started preparing for Christmas yet.

00:00Grey Street was packed as hundreds of people gathered to watch as the city became festively illuminated.
00:06Guests saw panel stars including Joe McKeldrie, children favourites such as Minnie Mouse and Princess Fiona,
00:12as well as a visit from Santa Claus himself, who alongside the Mayor of Newcastle, Steve, Karen and Joe,
00:17pressed the button that lit up the streets of the city.
00:19I spoke with the public about their thoughts of the lights and if they have their Christmas decorations up at home yet.
00:27They're quite nice to be honest. I wasn't here for the switch on but they look really pretty, proper festive, proper in the Christmas mood.

00:34So we're on a student night out, we picked each other's outfits in a charity shop and this is what we picked each other to wear.

00:45I'm really festive. You can tell by the antlers, I'm proper feeling it already.
00:49Our house isn't like, my house ain't like Christmassy like yet but got my Christmas shopping sorted like for the parents.
00:56Yeah it's like proper like, yeah proper preps, let's go.
01:00The turning on took quite a long time, a few minutes after seven but now it's definitely a good display,
01:07especially with all of the little shops and things out there, the market, it's looking very Christmassy.
01:13We were just sort of standing shivering in the cold until they eventually turned on after the little break.
01:18It's a Jojo and Seagull or something.
01:20Yeah, as a house we've been decorating the tree inside which has been quite fun.
01:27Got a wreath on the door, yeah.
01:29Shopped all day.
01:30Yeah I like them, not too naff because you have naff Christmas lights which are a bit like almost too colourful don't you?

01:38Yeah whereas these are a bit more classy, a bit more sort of not too in your face, subtle but pretty I'd say.

01:46We don't know, I've got to go back home.
01:48I think I might go skiing which will be nice but I don't know.
