00:00We will discuss the effects of the Ophel Storm in the Cagayan Valley Region
00:05with Regional Director Leon Rafael of the Office of Civil Defense, Region 2.
00:11Director Rafael, good afternoon to you.
00:15Good afternoon to you and to all who are following your program.
00:22Please explain to us what is the current situation in the Cagayan Region.
00:29The current situation here is that the sky is clear and the sun is shining.
00:36It seems that the storm did not pass here in the Cagayan Region.
00:41Director Rafael, are there still areas in the Cagayan Valley that are submerged until now?
00:50Yes sir, we still have areas that are submerged because our Cagayan River still has a high level of water.
00:58According to our gauging station here in Buntun Bridge, its level is only 8.4.
01:06It reached more than 9 meters last night.
01:13So what are the things that the Civil Defense is preparing for the possible effects of the Ophel Storm,
01:20especially in the high-risk areas?
01:24We are preparing for a pre-emptive evacuation for our countrymen
01:31who are in low-lying areas that can be flooded.
01:35Also, if there is a landslide, there will be a pre-emptive evacuation.
01:41Because the storm will continue, this will be our 6th evacuation within 6 weeks.
01:47That is why our countrymen are going back and forth to the evacuation centers
01:53to ensure their safety.
01:56The local government units are also preparing food packs for our countrymen who are going to the evacuation centers.
02:10The local government units are also preparing food packs for our countrymen who are going to the evacuation centers.
02:24Director Leon, you mentioned earlier that our countrymen are going back and forth to the evacuation centers.
02:31How is their situation since the last storm?
02:36Is the number of evacuation centers in Region 2 still sufficient?
02:41Yes, sir. There are a lot of family food packs here.
02:47Our Department of Social Welfare and Development is continuously cleaning the local government units
02:54so that they will have enough stockpiles for our countrymen who are going to the evacuation centers.
03:02So, there is no problem that the evacuation centers will be closed
03:07and that other countrymen will have to move to another room?
03:14Yes, ma'am. We have what we call modular tents.
03:18So that at least one family will be able to sleep.
03:21They will not have to move.
03:24Some of our countrymen are staying with their family or friends.
03:30That's why not all of them went to the evacuation centers.
03:33There are some who are outside the evacuation centers with their family or friends.
03:39All right. Take care. Thank you very much for your time.
03:43Regional Director Leon Rafael of the Office of Civil Defense, Region 2.
