00:00I have 90 seconds to mark the 90th anniversary since the Miners Welfare
00:05Hall was opened in Ystradgynlais. This wonderful hall was built from the
00:09miners pennies and cost them at the time £9,000. The opening ceremony was
00:15followed by a week of celebrations including a grand production of The
00:20Bells of Bewlow by the Ystradgynlais Juvenile Operatic Society produced by
00:26Mr. Kenlyce Davis. Since 1934 the hall has gone through various transformations
00:33and today is a vibrant Arts Centre and community hub. Sometimes it's also a
00:39radio station, sometimes it's a TV studio. It has a cinema showing all the latest
00:45films and it hosts events like, wait for it, an ABBA Live tribute band and has a
00:51variety of workshops and activities. It also boasts the Joseph Herman Art
00:57Foundation Cymru which is dedicated to promoting an appreciation of the life
01:01and work of Joseph Herman who has exhibited at the Tate Britain. Indeed
01:07the Welfare Hall is proud of the fact that it is one of the few welfare halls
01:11throughout the whole of the country that has retained its original purpose of
01:16being a place of culture and education. This hall is by and for the whole
01:23community of Ystradgynlais. Diolch to all of the staff and volunteers who have
01:28been there over the past 90 years and we wish them well for the next 90 years.
01:33Diolch yn fawr iawn.
01:36Item 5 this afternoon is a debate on the children and young people.
