Police are investigating the fatal stabbing of a 22-year-old man in Beaumont St, Hamilton.

00:00Around 2.30 a.m. this morning officers from Newcastle City Police District
00:04responded to reports of a male person who had received stab injuries at
00:10Beaumont Street, Hamilton. Police and emergency services responded to those
00:14reports. They found a 22-year-old man suffering from significant stab wounds. They assisted members of the community in providing first aid to that male person before he was transported to hospital.
00:27Unfortunately a short time later that 22-year-old man from Newcastle succumbed to those injuries
00:34and lost his life. Officers from Newcastle City Police District supported by the State Crime
00:39Command's Homicide Squad established Strike Force Manum to investigate the circumstances
00:46of the young man's death. Officers have been working extremely hard throughout the day
00:52obtaining evidence and information to assist us in identifying what led to this young man's death
00:59on Beaumont Street at Hamilton. What can you tell us about this man's movements in the lead up to the
01:05study? Obviously this is a live investigation. It's in its infancy at the moment. The circumstances
01:13of that young man's movements are still subject to our investigation as are the circumstances
01:19that led to his death. We know so far that a violent altercation did occur between this
01:26young man and a group of people on Beaumont Street at Hamilton. The circumstances leading
01:31up to that altercation and what transpired during that incident are still very much under
01:37investigation and as I indicated officers from Strike Force Manum are currently doing that now.
01:44We are also seeking assistance, information from members of the public who may have been
01:50in Beaumont Street, Hamilton around 2.30am this morning.
