The Budget 2025's focus on improving welfare for children with disabilities, including dedicated provisions for the autism community, underscores the Women, Family, and Community Development Ministry’s (KPWKM) commitment to advocating for the needs of children with disabilities and those with rare diseases, said Minister Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri.
Speaking to reporters after attending the Spastic Fun Run 29th Annual Charity Walk-Jog-Wheel-A-Thon at Dataran Merdeka on Sunday (Nov 17), Nancy reaffirmed the government’s dedication to ensuring these children receive equal treatment, proper care, and empowerment through the ministry’s allocations in Budget 2025.
Nancy also highlighted that, as of October 31, the Social Welfare Department (JKM) has registered over 740,000 persons with disabilities (PwDs), a significant increase from the 633,653 registered in 2023.

00:09This year is the 29th edition of the annual Walk, Jog, Wheel-a-thon
00:14For me, it's the second time. Last year was in November
00:18Last year in November
00:19We did it in November
00:21That's why when we invite again, we have to go
00:23There must be a continuity
00:24We want to see how the reception is
00:28Not only the reception from the family that has PWD
00:37But also the reception from the public
00:40We want to see how the reception is
00:42Because there needs to be an improvement in terms of reception
00:47To show the concern of our community
00:52So this is what we witnessed today
00:55Today, in the year 2000, more or less 2,000 people participated in the program
01:02Is this event a bit of a challenge?
01:06It is indeed challenging
01:08But maybe those who need help, especially in terms of sponsorship
01:14In terms of money, I understand it's a bit of a shortage
01:17But a lot in terms of prize giving
01:20So we will try to help together
01:24We have discussed informally
01:26So that we can help and look for sponsorship
01:31To add more help in terms of sponsorship in terms of money
01:37So that they can add more
01:42What they need to add as filling
01:45Moreover, they need the sponsorship to help
01:50Facilities in certain places
01:53Today, we have more than 20 NGOs involved
02:03More than 20 NGOs are involved
02:06They are given tasks
02:09From there, we can see their commitment and involvement
02:14Anything else?
02:16How about the children?
02:18What are the opportunities for them to enjoy a healthy lifestyle?
02:27That's why we have a national conference
02:33To look at food waste
02:38Especially in Putrajaya
02:43There are too many food waste
02:46So besides that, those who go to TASKAR
02:49What kind of food do we need to give?
02:51Because we need to give equality to those who need it
02:59We don't care if they are PWDs or ordinary children
03:06They need to be given attention and treated equally
03:15So that's our role, all the ministries in this country
03:20When we have meetings, this is what we discuss together
03:24But if we look at the budget for next year
03:27We can see how the budget also involves autism
03:33So this is what we discuss together
03:37But we are very happy that there is improvement
03:42And God willing, we will look at the needs of each disease
03:49Because I just found out that there is a rare disease
03:53What is the need for this rare disease?
03:57Because it is not only needed in terms of food
04:02In terms of physical needs
04:05But what happens if there is no one to take care of it?
04:09This is what we as a government need to think about
04:12That's why if you look at it now
04:15We have a lot of messages about caregivers
04:20So this is where we started
04:23And God willing, it will be strengthened for years to come
04:27And we have also decided to add more people
04:32Who are involved in the caregiving industry
04:35So this is our duty, our responsibility
04:42To ensure that we will help improve
04:48For those who need this
04:51As of 31st of October
04:56More than 700,000
04:59To be exact, 740,844
05:02Who registered with the Community Welfare Department
05:05Compared to 2023
05:08This shows a lot of awareness
05:11It doesn't mean that it is the right number
05:14But it shows that there is awareness
05:17Where a lot of people have registered
05:21With the Community Welfare Department
