Jack a.nd Matt review the shocking final episode of The Penguin
Transcript
00:00Ma? I'm gonna take care of you, Ma. You know that, right?
00:11I'd do anything for you.
00:17And if you don't believe me, well, you don't got it.
00:21Cause I'm gonna prove it to you.
00:25Just don't give up on me.
00:26No.
00:29I know what I lost. What he took from me.
00:32Don't fucking touch her!
00:35I just wanna know, was it worth it?
00:40Oswald Cobb, man of the people.
00:44Right, well, we get kicked off.
00:47The season finale of The Penguin, the shocking finale.
00:50The shocking, explosive, explosive, buzzword finale.
00:55Initial thoughts?
00:58Well, to me, I thought it was two of the best scenes in the whole show.
01:02But I don't actually like how it all ended.
01:04Like, I don't actually like how it all finished up.
01:07I don't think it would be any point in trying to go through some chronological order.
01:11Well, I have it listed in chronological order.
01:13If you want, they just run through.
01:14Ah, we'll go through it then.
01:16So, once we have a flashback of, like, Os's mother reacting to the death of his brothers.
01:22But we find out that she just always knew.
01:25Which is crazy.
01:26And she says, the quote, I've got the devil in my house.
01:29This devil comes up a lot.
01:30It's a good line.
01:31Symbolism.
01:34You know, then we go back to the murmurs and the whole scene.
01:37And reflection.
01:38And then, when they wake up, Os is then awoke in murmurs.
01:42And it's that whole thing where he's then confronted by his past.
01:46Which I thought was pretty good.
01:47It really showed how much of an absolute psycho he is.
01:51Like, he's willing to have his mother's finger chopped off just so he doesn't have to admit it to himself and to his mother.
01:56Like, he just watches.
01:57He just goes silent.
01:59But then, when his mother collapses after stabbing him with a, what was it, like a wine bottle or something?
02:06And then he then breaks out of his restraints and rescues her and delivers to a hospital.
02:11And it's just like, where does his morals lie in the whole thing?
02:15It's really strange.
02:17From my initial thoughts, I enjoyed it.
02:21But I had the same issues I've had with this show the whole way through.
02:24I had the exact same.
02:26He's got captured.
02:27He breaks free.
02:29And I think they do it twice in the one episode.
02:31And it's just like...
02:32Well, no, they're the fake out in this episode.
02:35I don't know.
02:36I thought it was a good final episode.
02:38But the eight episodes definitely was enough.
02:41I was getting kind of sick of that wrong thing.
02:45Well, this scene in particular, before we move on.
02:47This scene is, I think, one of the best scenes in the entire show.
02:50Where the emotion just boils to the surface.
02:53Where Oz's mother is just telling him, you know, I hate you.
02:56I hate you over and over again.
02:58It gets real for Oz.
03:00He realises that he's not actually played the part of manipulating his ma.
03:06Like, the whole time, she knew.
03:09I see a combination there.
03:11Colin Farrell and...
03:12I had her name written to him.
03:14She's an Irish actor.
03:15Was it Deidre O'Connell or something?
03:17It was O'Connell.
03:18But the both of them are just brilliant actors.
03:20Really well done.
03:22So was the lady that played Sophia.
03:24But she kind of got on my nerves a wee bit towards the end.
03:28It kind of felt like they were done with her.
03:30It kind of...
03:31Like, she was just kept around.
03:32They have that confrontation between his mother.
03:35Like, her arc felt complete.
03:37Yeah.
03:38That was before.
03:39But he breaks out of the scenario with Sophia Giganti.
03:44And then, you know, he kind of gets his revenge on her.
03:48And this is one of my correct productions.
03:50One of my only correct productions.
03:52What, Sophia Loves?
03:53Yeah, Sophia Loves.
03:54They send her back, they irk him.
03:56I was surprised.
03:57I think that there was a very nice shot of her overlooking the city.
04:00And it cuts to the side profile.
04:01And you're just expecting the gunshot to go off.
04:04But then, Penguin must be, like, the quietest man on earth.
04:07Because he's just not there anymore.
04:09The man who has, like, a bump neck and he just disappears.
04:12And then the guy talks like this.
04:14Sophia Giganti, get on your knees.
04:16The greatest character.
04:18I noticed you had to do the therapist character.
04:21What was he doing on the show?
04:23He had one, like, crucial scene.
04:27I don't even know his name.
04:28It was written down as, like, doctor boyfriend.
04:31It's not true.
04:32It's just what it is.
04:33He had the scene where, like, he was shirtless tied up.
04:36At, like, the start of the last episode.
04:38I was just like, what are they doing?
04:40I suppose that's important.
04:41That's how Sophia learns about Oz and kind of blackmail him.
04:44That's what I'm saying.
04:45I guess the only, like, integral part of the show is that scene.
04:47But apart from that, he's...
04:49I think this is where the show could have been a wee bit longer.
04:51Where they can drag this out a bit.
04:53Build the suspense of, like, them knowing.
04:56Because it's, like, instant payoff.
04:59It's, like, you know, obviously in the flashback,
05:02at the start of the episode,
05:03it breaks because, you know, she sees the flashing lights
05:06that we see in the episode before.
05:09And that's how we know it's, like, a hallucination type thing.
05:12No, it's really well done.
05:14But, like, if that was, like...
05:15If he gave, like, a couple more episodes
05:17and then that's slowly revealed,
05:19I think that just makes for a better show.
05:22After he breaks out from Sophia,
05:24he, like, kinda gets, like, the...
05:26It's, like, a counsellor or a...
05:29What is he?
05:30Like, a politician.
05:32He gets, like, a politician in his pocket.
05:33The governor.
05:34Yeah, the governor.
05:36He blackmails...
05:37Well, not blackmails.
05:38He offers him, like, a really good deal.
05:40And that kinda, like, sets him up to be, like,
05:42the future character he's gonna be
05:43because now he has these politicians in his pocket.
05:45Like how it ended with him in, like,
05:47the classic Penguin tuxedo.
05:49The sit reveal.
05:50The end of show sit reveal.
05:52Lethal.
05:53Guys, did you know this is the Penguin from The Batman?
05:58Gets a new car, too.
05:59I hate that car.
06:00He upgrades his car.
06:01It's still purple.
06:02It's a purple Rolls Royce now.
06:03Is purple a colour associated with Penguin?
06:05I don't think so.
06:06Just purple car.
06:09What was I gonna say?
06:11I thought the way the confrontation of, like,
06:14you know, the final confrontation he has with Sophia
06:16was a bit lacklustre.
06:17Like, oh, you got duped.
06:19Like, you got tricked.
06:20Guys, what happens there is what she...
06:23The scene right after, like, Penguin escapes,
06:27we cut to Vic's POV.
06:29And he's gotten, from the last episode,
06:31he's gotten, you know, an army of gangs.
06:33And they're all running to help him
06:35because, you know, Penguin thought
06:36there was gonna be, like, a big shootout
06:37and said Sophia detonates the bomb.
06:40Instead, what happens is Vic discovers
06:43that they're not actually loyal.
06:45They were just loyal to the product.
06:46So they basically all retreat except for, like,
06:48one, what, lieutenant.
06:49He's basically like, look, we're not there yet.
06:53And I just thought, like, fuck,
06:54really overstepped his mark on that scene.
06:56I thought, oh, I can't wait to see more from this guy.
06:58Obviously, by the end of the episode, we don't.
07:02But then they, all the gang leaders,
07:05then go to Sophia's.
07:07And Sophia's like, look, I'll give you the whole thing.
07:09Just bring me Penguin.
07:10You know, the whole, like, empire that, you know,
07:12the Falcons built up.
07:14Sophia's just gonna give it away as a bounty.
07:17So then we now see Penguin exiting the courthouse.
07:21And he's getting captured by the Triads.
07:23So we think, okay, right, this is how it's gonna go.
07:25He's gonna get captured again.
07:27But then, say, he just dupes.
07:29Just, uh-oh.
07:30I got you.
07:31I got you, type of thing.
07:33I don't know.
07:34Whatever.
07:35I kinda want, like, a wee gang warfare.
07:36But I suppose that's just the one action on this show,
07:39which the show doesn't really do.
07:40It doesn't do action.
07:42They may have the budget for it.
07:43No.
07:44No.
07:45But Sophia gets sent back to Arkham with her weird therapist boyfriend,
07:50doctor boyfriend.
07:52Well, it's nice to see that the niece character is actually rounded off pretty well.
07:56Because, you know, we learn that she's, like, doing all right.
07:58Mm.
07:59Which is, like, I mean, that's...
08:00Oh, I remember that. What happened?
08:02In the prison, Sophia gets handed a black letter.
08:05And that was just, like, from, like, her niece.
08:07No.
08:08They live in a gum suite.
08:09No, it wasn't.
08:10It wasn't?
08:11No.
08:12Did I get that wrong?
08:14Oh, my God, I got that completely wrong.
08:16That's from Selina Kay.
08:17Oh, is it? Is she, like, looking at me funny?
08:19That's from Catwoman.
08:20Catwoman?
08:21I got that wrong?
08:22She gets a letter from Selina Kay, like,
08:24oh, I'm just her lad.
08:26And she doesn't actually read out the letter.
08:28It's just...
08:29I thought, oh, this is from your niece.
08:31She's got out of Arkham.
08:32I thought that's what that was, no?
08:33No, she gets a...
08:34You see, when doctor boyfriend's on screen,
08:36I just start laughing.
08:37Yeah, you just start laughing.
08:38Like, a boring scene in common.
08:40Like, I don't care.
08:41Doctor boyfriend.
08:42Probably character.
08:44But, I mean, we're kind of, like,
08:46trying to dance around it,
08:47but the most horrifying scene.
08:50So, after Penguin's victory over Sophia,
08:53he goes to the hospital.
08:55He found out his ma's in a vegetative state.
08:58And then that just kind of puts...
08:59that dampens his parade,
09:00because he needs the recognition.
09:02I feel like that's, like, his whole arc,
09:03is, like, he just needs his ma's recognition.
09:06That's why he kills his brother,
09:07because he wants all the attention.
09:08He wants to feel like the man.
09:11And then, in response,
09:12I'm, in fact, going to his park,
09:13and you think,
09:14oh, it's going to be, like,
09:15a nice reflective scene.
09:16You know, they both open up to each other.
09:18It, in fact, opens up, like,
09:19oh, you're such, like, a...
09:20You're basically saying he's a father figure to him.
09:23Penguin then turns and just chokes him.
09:27It kills him.
09:29A horrible, horrible way.
09:30It's probably one of the best scenes in the show.
09:32But the whole time, I'm just annoyed.
09:35Oh, I'm so annoyed.
09:36But, like, a good kind of way.
09:37Like, you know,
09:38that's the kind of annoyance you want from a show.
09:40Like, I was annoyed that...
09:41Frick's just pleading for his life.
09:43Oh, he's kicking his legs
09:44and trying to fight off this massive man, the Penguin.
09:47Penguin's big and quiet.
09:48Choking him out.
09:49Big and quiet.
09:50It was such, like a...
09:52I don't know, I had a kind of, like,
09:53guttural reaction,
09:54because I really like Frick.
09:55He was, like, my favourite character in the show,
09:56and to see him be killed
09:58in such a merciless, horrible way
10:01was...
10:02It was a rough day to watch.
10:03Because, like, there was speech beforehand,
10:04and, like, it oversteps its mark.
10:07But I feel like that could have gone somewhere.
10:09Mm.
10:10Because he really did turn out to be this gangster.
10:12You think maybe the universe can do something
10:15with this character,
10:16but no, they just chose to kill him.
10:18You think his reason for killing was worth,
10:21like, justified, though?
10:22Is this whole thing was, like, you know,
10:23families actually pulling me back
10:25out of one family?
10:26Aye.
10:27I think what I learned is that he never needed it.
10:30Mm.
10:31So now he's just cutting everything off.
10:33He doesn't actually need anyone.
10:35And then at the end, it's revealed
10:37he's always had this kind of weird relationship with his mother.
10:40It's kind of there from the start.
10:42I always try to put it off.
10:43I was like, no, it's just a weird way of directing it.
10:46But no, it's just Freudian.
10:48Aye.
10:49It's not nice.
10:50No, it's horrible.
10:51Aye, so the exotic dancer from Ireland,
10:53so we kind of had a relationship with her.
10:55We learned what her special relationship was.
10:57Mm.
10:58As she's there in the same outfit,
11:00the same dress as his mother was
11:02when they had that dance.
11:03And they made a big, like, show of showing this dress
11:06over and over again.
11:07So, like, once you eventually see her in the dress,
11:09you know, like...
11:10And the music.
11:11Aye.
11:12Aye.
11:13He said, aye, it's nasty.
11:15But, um...
11:17And a prediction,
11:19I think I want to look at the predictions that we had.
11:22You...
11:23I think I got it right.
11:24You probably got more right than I did.
11:26I got who died.
11:27Mm.
11:28I don't think Vic would die.
11:30The only thing I got right was that Sophia would love.
11:32Um, and I thought that Batman would have been it.
11:35But...
11:36I don't know.
11:37I mean...
11:38At the very end of Panzer, you see the Bat symbol.
11:40I don't know.
11:41It's kind of this huge, screaming at you, like,
11:43it's a Batman symbol.
11:44Aye, remember?
11:45Remember him?
11:46He'll be back.
11:47I don't know if it was mentally,
11:48but wasn't it because a big massive bomb goes off
11:50in a city...
11:51Not in a city centre,
11:52but, like, a residential...
11:53Well, we're not...
11:54Maybe Vic and the Penguin don't see him?
11:57Maybe.
11:58Maybe he's out, being like...
12:00Mm.
12:01Being all edgy and all,
12:02listening to his Nirvana playlist or whatever.
12:04Yeah, Nirvana's good.
12:05Um...
12:06But, um, aye, and then, like,
12:08obviously you see the final suit,
12:10and I kind of feel like, you know,
12:12that is just, you know, he's...
12:14The Penguin isn't going to be a character
12:16that's ever going to leave this universe.
12:18He's always going to be a constant.
12:19He's going to be like a villain side character.
12:20Aye, like it kind of is in, like, the shoes,
12:22where he's just...
12:23He'll always find a way to weasel out,
12:25but then always come back.
12:26And now he has this, like, high-rise penthouse,
12:28looking over the whole city of Gotham.
12:30With his mother in a coma state,
12:32watching.
12:33Alone.
12:34That's a really grim answer.
12:36I know, it's really grim.
12:37I feel like Batman would be like,
12:39he's going to get him.
12:40Remember him, Matt?
12:41He's going to get him.
12:42But, um...
12:43Aye, uh...
12:44What else do we predict?
12:45You predicted that...
12:46that he would die.
12:48I don't think I thought...
12:49I don't think Batman would be...
12:50I think I thought...
12:51I think I said I'd be surprised
12:52if there was any cameos at this stage.
12:54Mm.
12:55I was expecting, like, at least one.
12:56But I don't know if I said as much.
12:58It would probably cost him a few million
12:59just to get rid of Pattinson and the dude.
13:01Aye.
13:02Even just his voice or something.
13:03Mm.
13:04That was never going to happen.
13:05I was too hopeful.
13:06I was just waiting for, like,
13:08you know, like, when he's in the courthouse,
13:09maybe, like, a Harvey Dent.
13:10Just...
13:11Very null fact.
13:12Just, like, a...
13:13lightning thrown out there.
13:14Like, even on, like, one of the doors.
13:15Like, Harvey Dent.
13:17Chairman, or whatever.
13:18Like, I just needed something.
13:19I mean, throughout the show,
13:20how many causes are there
13:21to the actual Batman,
13:23or DC universe?
13:24There's...
13:25uh...
13:26the Pangolin himself.
13:27Aye, the...
13:28just Arkham Asylum.
13:29Arkham Asylum.
13:30Which is already, like...
13:31There's nothing new
13:32mentioned in the show
13:34that actually has, like,
13:35any, like,
13:36bearing on, like,
13:37the whole Gotham universe.
13:38Like, you have Arkham,
13:39which is in the movie.
13:40Mm-hmm.
13:41The Bat symbol,
13:42which is in the movie.
13:43Mm-hmm.
13:44The Penguin,
13:45which is in the movie.
13:46And then Selina Kyle,
13:47which is in the movie.
13:48There's no, like, new reveal.
13:49No, there's nothing, like...
13:50There's...
13:51I suppose...
13:52I don't know.
13:53I actually think it's a good thing,
13:54in a way,
13:55because you don't want, like,
13:56go away,
13:57oh, look, it's such and such character.
13:58Look at camera, you know?
13:59I feel like Marvel do that
14:00when they acknowledge,
14:01like, hey, this is...
14:02this is your guy.
14:03I think it's probably why
14:04I probably have
14:05high regard for the show.
14:06It's not, uh...
14:07It stands on its own legs.
14:08Like, you wouldn't need
14:09to watch the Batman to watch it.
14:10In fact, you don't need
14:11to watch the Batman
14:12to watch it.
14:13You could probably watch it
14:14before the Batman
14:15and still get the same
14:16kind of experience.
14:17Oh, yeah.
14:18I mean,
14:19the Penguin's in the Batman film,
14:20but he's not, like,
14:21a public character.
14:22I feel like...
14:23Actually, I do feel like
14:24it would,
14:25because then you're, like,
14:26why is he, like,
14:27just kind of
14:28streaking in the movie?
14:29But, um...
14:30I thought it was
14:31a good show.
14:32I did get a wee bit tired
14:33of it by the end
14:34with the repetitiveness
14:35of it.
14:36Considering what's out
14:37at the minute,
14:38it's probably
14:39one of the better shows
14:40to watch,
14:41especially because
14:42it's so short.
14:43Yeah, I mean,
14:44you could watch it now
14:45within, like,
14:46two or three days.
14:47Two days.
14:48If you want to.
14:49Just bang it out
14:50a couple nights.
14:51I do think
14:52the week-to-week
14:53kind of helped it,
14:54I think.
14:55I don't know.
14:56That's because
14:57maybe it kind of
14:58like, if this
14:59was a couple
15:00season show,
15:01I think they could do more,
15:02but I feel like
15:03when you have to wait
15:04week for week,
15:05you kind of do that
15:06sort of time job
15:07in your head.
15:08At the end,
15:09I watched it with my dad,
15:10at the end he said,
15:11well, that's them
15:12getting ready for season two.
15:13I don't know if
15:14there will be one.
15:15I can't see there
15:16being a season two.
15:17I just think
15:18in the movie,
15:19now the Penguin's
15:20going to be, like,
15:21if he's not the main thread,
15:22it'll be, like,
15:23the B-plot.
15:24Going to play a big part
15:25in it, like.
15:26And they bring,
15:27I don't know,
15:28I don't know if
15:29they're going to
15:30go back for the next film,
15:31but maybe she does.
15:32Does she not go away?
15:33Aye, she drives off.
15:34She flies off on a motorbike,
15:35but if they're going to
15:36throw in a wee letter
15:37from Selena Kyle,
15:38maybe that is just
15:39their one wee,
15:40hey, hello,
15:41we know you boys.
15:42That, like,
15:43two minutes to go
15:44from Penguin.
15:45That you must.
15:46The thing about it,
15:47I was like,
15:48I checked my phone
15:49and I locked it
15:50and the scene was over.
15:51I was like,
15:52oh,
15:53I think you said
15:54someone there's your,
15:55like, sister's daughter
15:56but I always think
15:57a good way of
15:58judging a show,
15:59well, not a good way,
16:00but a stupid way
16:01of judging a show
16:02is if you recommend
16:03it to your dad.
16:04If you recommend it,
16:05would you, like,
16:06confidently recommend
16:07it to your dad?
16:08I think it's,
16:09aye, it's good, aye.
16:10Aye.
16:11Because there's been
16:12shows in the past,
16:13like, I was like,
16:14the first two seasons
16:15of Power,
16:16I was like,
16:17I didn't like it.
16:18I just said that,
16:19I didn't like it.
16:20I was like,
16:21why is it?
16:22There's, like,
16:23a sex scene,
16:24like, every five months.
16:25I'd say it's a good show.
16:26I mean,
16:27I would recommend it
16:28to my dad.
16:29I mean,
16:30I watch it with my dad.
16:31Aye.
16:32But, um,
16:33I don't know,
16:34I wouldn't say
16:35it surprises him.
16:36It's like,
16:37It's good.
16:38It's like a 7.5
16:39out of 10
16:40that's new there.
16:41Yeah, it's good.
16:42Like,
16:43some really good scenes.
16:44I think Colin Farrell
16:45kind of carries it
16:46in his back,
16:47maybe.
16:48Aye.
16:49I think without his performance,
16:50like, even,
16:51even some of, like,
16:52the expressions he can make
16:53under all that stuff,
16:54like,
16:55you can tell what it was.
16:56Emotions, like,
16:57there's even, like,
16:58wee subtle.
16:59It's kind of crazy.
17:00Mm.
17:01Yeah.
17:02Yeah.
17:03Now what?
17:04Now what?
17:05Now what do we watch?
17:06Like,
17:07Fortnite Season 1.
17:08What,
17:09we go back?
17:10Before they even do it?
17:11Before they reload us like that.
17:12Oh,
17:13I don't even know
17:14what that is.
17:15This is Fortnite Season 1.
17:16But, um,
17:17that's the end
17:18of our,
17:19uh,
17:20Penguin
17:21reviews.
17:22We'll never see it again.
17:23Reviews?
17:24We'll never see each other ever again?
17:25No.
17:26I think another DC show
17:27comes out.
17:28What?
17:29Comes with the watch.
17:30Going to have to review
17:31all the Marvel shows now.
17:32No.
17:33There's Marvelous,
17:34Miss Amazel.
17:35What?
17:36Uh,
17:37what's that one?
17:38Like,
17:39Captain Marvel or,
17:40no, no.
17:41There's a new one
17:42about watches.
17:43Oh,
17:44uh,
17:45Angela all about her son.
17:46I think he made that up.
17:47No,
17:48it's him.
17:49The one from,
17:50uh,
17:51Wakanda version.
17:52Agatha.
17:53It was Agatha all along?
17:54Agatha all along.
17:55It's close.
17:58Angela all about her son.
18:01Uh,
18:02Falcon,
18:03Captain America.
18:04Captain America and the Falcon.
18:05Watch out.
18:06Uh,
18:07that has one good scene in it.
18:08Uh,
18:09the end.
18:10Where it's over.
18:11No.
18:12Where he bashes boys brains in
18:13with the Captain America suit.
18:14Uh,
18:15the boys
18:16episode.
18:17Oh,
18:18come back to the boys.
18:19But, um,
