00:00Good morning, iBeeniebers!
00:03Hello, hello! Happy Sunday, Kuya Chris!
00:05Happy Sunday!
00:06I noticed the one you're holding. It's so cute.
00:09It's like an ancient forest at the palm of your hand.
00:12Yes. This is called a terrarium.
00:14Terrarium?
00:15Yes. Aside from the earth and toy dinosaurs here,
00:18everything that's inside the bottle is alive.
00:21Huh? This is alive?
00:24So, it's alive for display?
00:26Oh, that's a good idea!
00:28But wait, Kuya Chris.
00:30Don't the animals inside die?
00:32No.
00:33The plants?
00:34No, because they have their own cycle inside.
00:37They just need to be watered once in a while.
00:40And, you know, just a little water.
00:42Seriously, Kuya Chris? Is that really alive?
00:44Yes.
00:45But what if the jar is covered?
00:48If there's no air inside, how will they breathe?
00:50Very good question.
00:51And that's what we're going to explain.
00:53Here, let's look at this.
00:56In the past 171 years,
00:58carbon dioxide levels increased by 48%
01:01due to the Industrial Revolution of 1850.
01:04This is a huge increase
01:05compared to what happened naturally in the past 20,000 years.
01:09But how will we breathe if the earth is full of carbon dioxide?
01:13That's why it's important that we have enough plants
01:16to absorb almost half of the carbon dioxide we emit.
01:21Too much CO2 in the environment is bad
01:23because it creates a greenhouse effect.
01:26The light from the sun hits the earth.
01:29Some of it bounces back into space,
01:32and some of it is absorbed by greenhouse gases.
01:36The heat that is absorbed is what heats up the earth.
01:39That's why there's climate change.
01:42Correct.
01:43Its effect is visible in places with snow.
01:46The heat of our planet has a big effect,
01:49even by one degree.
01:50Think about it.
01:51One degree is all it takes for water to become ice.
01:55That's why when one degree heats up the earth,
01:58snow and ice will melt,
02:00and the water in the sea will rise.
02:02In the whole world?
02:04Yes.
02:05Now, the average temperature is 59 degrees Fahrenheit.
02:08But it can go up to 3.6 degrees by 2050
02:13if we don't stop carbon dioxide emissions
02:16and fight global warming.
02:18The simple use of renewable energy
02:20like solar, wind, and water resources
02:22and saving on electricity
02:24will have a big effect on the future of our planet.
02:27And we can do everything,
02:30like turning off lights and appliances
02:32that are not used,
02:34go to the carpool,
02:35walk,
02:36ride a bicycle,
02:37or ride public transportation
02:39instead of driving.
02:41Greenhouse gases and global warming
02:43are important issues
02:45that need serious attention now.
