00:00Here at this Taipei Park, parents, kids, and human rights groups have gathered to discuss
00:04how to best support and protect the rights of Taiwan's children ahead of World Children's Day.
00:13This year's theme is Me Too, referring to the global social movement against sexual
00:17abuse and harassment.
00:18And participants here are emphasizing the importance of a child's right to bodily autonomy.
00:23The event comes during a year when Taiwan has been rattled by multiple high-profile
00:27child abuse cases, including a Taipei preschool teacher who sexually abused at least six different
00:32children.
00:33People here say that part of reducing sexual abuse cases in Taiwan is teaching children
00:37that they deserve respect.
00:57They also say it's important for parents to create a supportive environment, so that
01:14if kids do encounter abuse or other issues, they feel comfortable talking about it.
01:28This child, who is one of the emcees for this event, knows his rights are important.
01:41Throughout the day, there will be talks on gender equality and forced labor.
01:45Booths have been set up around this park, each representing a different right, like
01:48the right to privacy.
01:50Everyone gathered here to learn about and advocate for the rights of Taiwan's children.
01:55I'm John Su, and this is Caton's Karata for Taiwan Plus.
