00:00So we're here in Penn and introduce yourselves guys. I'm councillor Paul Ting for the Penn Ward and I'm councillor Steph Haynes for the Penn Ward.
00:09Now it doesn't normally look like this here does it? No it does not. So what road are we on guys?
00:15So we're on Mount Road at the junction of Mutchall Road. On Penn there and what's happened?
00:21So recently there was an accident caused by the speeding that we've had several concerns raised recently along Mount Road.
00:29To be honest it was only a matter of time. There was quite a nasty accident here with two vehicles and unfortunately this lady's wall got took out.
00:39If we turn around it's no ordinary wall is it? It's quite historic isn't it really?
00:46It's been here for as long as I can remember. So it's not a wall that's been built recently, it's a wall that's going to take quite a lot of repair.
00:54So you could see it coming, you thought this was just a matter of time? Oh absolutely.
00:59My colleague has just said the concerns the residents have raised with speeding on this particular road.
01:06It's quite a long road and people do speed down here and also there's no actual sign here.
01:14It's 30 miles per hour. People should know that anyway when it's not here.
01:19And just touching on the wall, yes you're absolutely right, it's a historic wall and we just hope now that it will get repaired to how it should be.
01:27And also the lamppost has been damaged. Oh yeah of course.
01:31This is a health and safety issue straight away. We don't want anything happening to this.
01:38So it's took the light off the top and everything hasn't it? It has, it has.
01:43So what would you like to see done here then? Because we're on a junction aren't we? So we're right opposite a junction aren't we?
01:49Well if you look there's a staggered junction here. Yeah you're right actually, if we flip round.
01:53It is actually quite difficult to see up the road about traffic that's coming down.
01:57Funnily enough I just went to pull out and then I had to come pull back again a bit. It is a tricky junction.
02:01It's not easy and you have to creep out of that junction and that's okay if you live around here and you know that.
02:05But if you don't then it can be really tricky when you're coming out, especially when you're trying to watch traffic coming up, traffic coming down and traffic coming out of that junction over there.
02:12So we need some sort of signage and warning really. Traffic calming, speed calming measures.
02:17We'd like the residents to be involved first and foremost. Absolutely.
02:21See what they say, what they want, but there's a number of things that can be explored.
02:25Especially you know we see around schools now where 20 miles per hour has been put in.
02:31And 20 miles per hour I'm sure you could still navigate this road.
02:36That's it, even if it's just for this you know 300 metres of this junction, this stretch yeah? Absolutely.
02:41The thing is that you can see up the road you've got quite a straight stretch.
02:45But because people have to park on the pavement that causes obstructions and you've got a bend down at the bottom.
02:52I mean if we come back just roughly, I mean this is even just a fraction of where the junction is that you'd be coming out.
02:59So when you're in your car even more so we can see there you just can't see that traffic coming around can you?
03:05And if we can also just say that we will be asking the council to investigate this as something urgent.
03:14And I think 20 miles per hour again you know the expense won't be as a major change to this road.
03:23We're just looking for some signs and we're just looking for the council to take some action now.
03:29And I suppose you would think Councillor Haynes, we've got the snow, we'd like to wish everyone a Merry Christmas.
03:36A very Merry Christmas.
03:39It's looking very Christmassy.
03:40It is, it is.
03:42And take even more care when you're driving in this.
03:44Well I have to say, this weather's great unless you've got a base somewhere.
03:47Yes, yes.
