00:00First, let's start. All of us should warmly congratulate Ekta ji and the entire team which has produced this superb movie, pehli baat.
00:12Dekhiye, number one. I speak on behalf of everyone to congratulate the cast, everyone who's made this a success.
00:23But there is something more than that. This has a powerful message. The facts have been known.
00:31When the Nanavati commission report came, it had brought out the fact that all the attempts to paint this as an accident,
00:39divert the attention to the failure of the authorities, all that was humbug.
00:47You cannot have 70 people locked up in a compartment which is so easy to open from the outside by putting your hand in.
00:58But this was a mass atrocity. It was committed after careful planning.
01:05The targets were Karsevaks who were coming back from Ayodhya.
01:11And the whole exercise was pre-planned, pre-meditated.
01:16And those who were responsible for governance at that time are guilty because they had a hand in perpetrating this falsehood.
01:24This is my main, what I see. The cinematography, the beauty of the film, that is on one side,
01:30but it becomes even more powerful when it brings that out in a very clinical and objective way.
01:36The second feeling I had was, all those people, and I don't want to associate Ektaji or anybody else with it,
01:43the war cry we had, Samidhan is under threat, democracy is vulnerable.
01:49You know, I was born five years after the independence. There is only one instance in our history, June 1975,
02:02when democracy was actually threatened, when civil liberties were curtailed and an emergency was imposed.
02:08This kind of a film, and the Nanavati Commission report has done the work,
02:13but this kind of a film will, when it is seen, and I hope it is seen throughout the country,
02:18and I hope everybody makes it tax-free, and it should be seen by every Indian,
02:23it will hopefully ensure that this kind of vitiating of the democracy, you know, it has been vitiated by that.
02:31And this kind of falsehood in a mature democracy will never take place again.
02:36So congratulations Ektaji, once again, and I must say, when I was given about a day or two's notice,
02:45and said, this is possible, I want to thank my team, all of them, Neil, all of them.
02:51They turned around and they were able to, well, thanks to everybody's effort, we got a hall, we got an outstanding audience.
02:57Today, part of the, I have people who, and not just one section of people,
03:02I had Arvind Singhji, who is the National Convener of the Street Vendors Association,
03:06I had school principals, it's a very wide cross-section of people,
03:10and I think they will all share the sentiment I am expressing.
