00:06Recent NHS data has also revealed that Neurovirus infections have increased by around 29% between
00:13the 23rd of September and the 9th of October. This is double the usual outbreak for this

00:19But what exactly is Neurovirus?
00:21Well, it's more commonly known as the winter vomiting bug, a stomach bug that brings with
00:25it vomiting and diarrhoea.
00:27The UK Health Security Agency has reported that the surge for cases this year has been
00:32driven by the Kawasaki strain.
00:34Whilst the bug can occur at any time of the year, the seasonal pattern it follows often
00:39sees increased virus activity in the colder months.
00:42So far this year, almost 3,000 cases of Neurovirus have been confirmed in lab tests, well over
00:48double the five-year average.
00:50And experts say the number is the tip of the iceberg of those infected, as most people
00:54just stay at home ill and never get a test.
00:56The bug is highly contagious and reportedly spreads easily in places like hospitals, schools
01:02and offices.
