By December 1942 the German Army trapped in Stalingrad was beginning to realize just how desperate the situation had become.

With supplies running low, the Germans were surviving from drops provided from Airlifts to the beleaguered city.

In the weeks to come, 85,00 of the pathetic prisoners would die from disease, starvation, brutality, neglect and despair.

Only 6000 survivors from the doomed 6th Army endured the long years of captivity in slave labor camps and lived to see Germany again.
