Angela Rayner has paid tribute to former deputy prime minister John Prescott following his death aged 86 following a battle with Alzheimer's. The deputy prime minister described Mr Prescott as "an incredible figure in politics" and revealed he would often ring her after PMQs to offer words of encouragement.

00:00Well, John was an incredible figure in politics, both in the Labour movement and in politics in general.
00:06And it's really sad that John's not here anymore because he's been a huge support to me ever since I came into politics.
00:13He could kind of see that I was this, you know, bit of a bright, bright spark that was like willing to go in their boots first,
00:21which was John's trademark as well. And he was incredibly supportive of me when I became the deputy leader of the Labour Party.
00:28And as deputy prime minister, he'd always ring me after I'd done prime minister's questions and really say,
00:34Angie, you're there to represent that voice of the working class movement. Go out there and, you know, make sure you're batting on their side.
00:41And he always brought it back down to the communities that he served. And of course, he served the people of Hull for a very long time.
