00:00Since coming up short in the 2024 presidential election,
00:04some online are speculating that Vice President Kamala Harris might also soon lose her husband.
00:08But it seems to be just that — idle speculation. There's no evidence yet confirming or denying a
00:14split, just a clutch of like-minded ex-users relishing the idea that Harris and second
00:19gentleman Doc Emhoff could be heading for a divorce. The buzz began when ex-user FreedNinja
00:24claimed, without evidence, that the two are already separated, posting on November 18th
00:28that unnamed sources say it was Doug who ditched Kamala, and that, quote,
00:32"...a divorce might be imminent."
00:34That's all he's got.
00:36FreedNinja claims to be a U.S. Army vet, not a reporter or White House insider,
00:40and the post appears to be nothing more than a brazen attempt to boost their follower count,
00:44which sits at just over 2,000 users, as of the making of this video.
00:48Several posts prior to the baseless divorce rumor are pleas from FreedNinja for their
00:52fellow MAGA patriots to help them out by following them back, or following their
00:56advice on investing in various cryptocurrencies. If this all sounds familiar, it's likely because
01:01Vice President-elect J.D. Vance weathered similar claims in September. A viral TikTok claimed that
01:06J.D.'s wife, Usha, filed for divorce ahead of the election over concerns that leaving J.D.
01:10would be more difficult if the Trump-Vance ticket won, but that clip was just a hoax
01:14meant to teach viewers about how rapidly misinformation can spread.
01:18See how easy that was? See how easy it is to make up stories?
01:24The recent Kamala and Doug divorce rumor on X isn't nearly as viral,
01:27and the account spreading the claim has yet to walk it back in any way,
01:30but it's a similar case of a political divorce rumor quickly gaining traction online.
01:35Kamala and Doug have been married since 2014,
01:37after being set up on a blind date by a PR consultant the year before.
01:40A child of divorce herself, the current veep revealed in her 2019 memoir that she had
01:45butterflies when first meeting her future stepchildren, Ella and Cole,
01:48but she later developed an intense bond with them both, earning the nickname Mamala.
01:53Kamala and her sister, Maya, were raised by a single mother after their parents split when
02:04the future vice president was just 7 years old. For what it's worth, Doug at least appears to be
02:09the epitome of the supportive spouse. He's posted photos of himself posing with a cardboard cutout
02:14of Kamala and with her Time magazine cover, among other sweet shared moments. He's seemingly Kamala's
02:19biggest fan, and she's called her stepchildren an endless source of love and pure joy.
02:24So a post-election split, if it happens, would certainly be a shock. That said,
02:28Doug did confess in August 2024 to having an affair with one of his daughter Ella's
02:33teachers back in 2009, an act of infidelity that ultimately ended his first marriage.
02:38CNN reported that relationship ended years before Doug began dating Kamala,
02:42and the future presidential candidate knew all about Doug's affair long before tying the knot.
