00:00Which is gonna make the show super cool. It's like we play a bunch of number ones with Matt
00:04We play a bunch of number ones. Yeah, maybe they trade off and they get creative any way that they want to be and
00:09Uh, the show just becomes like yeah, like a like a higher level of three days grace
00:16Odyssey check in neil sanderson from three days grace neil so much to talk about with the
00:21You guys have two singers now
00:24This is crazy
00:25yeah, man, it feels you know, it feels like uh, first of all, i'm really like I feel like
00:30you know, I just gratitude for like I don't know being at this point in my career like we've been doing this almost 25 years and
00:36and uh
00:38Just to have so much excitement about the new music and uh, you know, we we were able to pull this off put it together
00:43all good vibes
00:45um, you know, we don't look back we only look forward and it's just like man
00:49We uh, it's gonna be just bigger and better than it's ever been at this point, you know
00:54I'm in my 40s, you know, it's like damn let's go
00:57Yeah
00:58So so so adam's back adam's back in the band and now so you officially matt and adam you're gonna have dual singers
01:05That's right. Yeah. Yeah, I mean, you know, we've uh, you know, it's kind of crazy to think that like, um
01:11You know, we have this huge chapter with adam and then this massive chapter with matt and like with like, you know
01:1717 number one singles thanks to like people like you and people that care about the music and the fans and everything
01:23it's like
01:24We've got all these songs that were like really successful at rock radio
01:27And now we can just like play them all like the any way that we want, you know
01:31Yeah, I think you know, I i've I I have envy for the singers because they only have to sing half the show
01:36I still got to play drums the whole damn time exactly
01:39That's what I was gonna say
01:40I was gonna say are you guys eventually gonna bring in an extra person for each instrument so that you guys can take off
01:44half the show
01:45Listen, my son is 14 and he's getting really good
01:49So there might be a you know, but uh, he's taller than me
01:52So he's gonna have to you know shrink down into the drums a little bit to pull it off
01:55But yeah, i'm thinking about that
01:57You talked about the 17 number one singles, you know mayday
02:01Is awesome like that that could be number 18
02:03I think it will be number 18. It's a great song. Um, how did you guys divide up the song?
02:08Like I can't when I heard it who's doing what?
02:12I I'd say actually a good question because uh,
02:14you know at first it was like we didn't know what how it was gonna all how we were gonna kind of like slice it
02:19all up and who was gonna do what and what it would sound like or what it would come across as and
02:23When we soon as we first started like sitting down and like writing new stuff and trying things out and experimenting
02:30Soon as each guy kind of laid their thing in it was like oh man
02:33this is like this is deeper than we would would have thought, you know, and we played each singer's strengths and
02:39uh, they didn't try to be anything that they're not and and
02:43It just creates this completely new dynamic a new facet to the sound it's a lot of more a lot more depth and things and
02:50We basically, you know, I did see them at one point like rock paper scissors to see who's gonna sing the next line
02:56Which is kind of funny
02:57Uh, but that's how like naturally organic it happened wasn't forced at all
03:01and then like the end result is just you know, we we kind of
03:04We started thinking about like, you know
03:05Like bands like pink floyd back in the day that had two singers and like they were both completely
03:11Different characters with different voices and but that's part of the magic with it. So we just really leaned into that
03:19And how did it this is what everyone wants to know how did it happen?
03:22How did adam back end up back in the band?
03:25We had been we started talking to him, you know
03:27so there's like there you know a lot of like the
03:30A lot of the stuff on the internet over the years is like all this bad blood and stuff
03:32And I think like a lot of people like made that up
03:35in you know in their mental cinema like as they were trolling the internet and stuff like it was like
03:40We were kind of like, you know stuff happens and it was every you know
03:44The thing about being in a band is like you're it's like being in a marriage with like three other people, right?
03:49You know and it's like so things happen people go different ways people have different life directions and stuff. So
03:55um, you know, so 13 years ago
03:57It was just we we kind of came to a crossroads where that would became a major factor
04:02but like all this time later, it just made sense to
04:05Investigate what it would be like to make this thing that was it would be bigger than better than anything we've ever done
04:10um, and when he got up on stage
04:12He he came out to a show got up on stage and guest vocaled on a couple songs and never too late
04:17I saw that that was awesome. Yeah, the crowd went crazy and the fans totally loved it. We're like, you know
04:23let's sit around with some guitars and see if we can like
04:26Be creative together because that was the only thing that mattered like we needed to be able to vibe out
04:30You know, we're like it's like we could pull a stunt or something
04:32But that was that's not what we wanted to do. Like he's coming back as like a full member
04:37This is long term, you know, and and it's just like this, you know this this chapter in our in our band and uh
04:44So yeah, he you know the fan excitement on him just getting up on stage and the fact that the fans were kind of like
04:49Oh, man, he's back in the camp. Potentially. We were just like let's roll with this and then
04:53We got together
04:54uh with acoustic guitars down at our guitar player, uh, barry's house who's got this beautiful country property and uh,
05:01And like it's like time had kind of stood still like adam and i've been in a band since we were 14 years old
05:08so we got a lot of history we got we came up doing a lot of the same stuff and and
05:13uh being part of the same experiences, so
05:16It's like the the creative part of it just like started happening
05:20We were like, let's just chase it and then we had these like great songs and we're all like hey
05:24You guys want to go out and do this and like really like take it as far as we can take it
05:28We're like, let's go
05:30And how did you get matt on it was matches down the whole time?
05:33Did he always want to do this or is it like hard to convince him?
05:36I mean, it's like your ex-wife with your new wife. Now. It's a menage a trois kind of thing
05:41Like yeah, yeah, you know, which is uh, I I don't know from experience, but I heard that's a that's a tough proposition to land
05:46um, but
05:50Um, no, you know matt, uh matt, you know
05:52He's he's brad's younger brother and he's been in the family since he was a kid. So he he's he knows out of me he uh
05:59Grew up around us when we were coming through as teenagers to kind of you know to to to you know
06:05just do the whole three days grace thing and
06:08I you know
06:08I think there's a part of him that says like hey
06:10I only have to sing like half the night and I can rock like for a while. Uh,
06:15so yeah, no, it's it's been all like he's
06:17He's got like he's one of the nice guys in the industry
06:20He doesn't he doesn't have an ego and he he saw the bigger picture of how great this could be with putting this whole thing
06:25together
06:26Yeah, it's like you imagine van halen going on tour with david lee roth and sammy hagar like it would never happen
06:32So it's pretty awesome. Like matt has made. I think he has more number one hits than adam had so it's like pretty crazy
06:39Yeah, it's crazy man
06:40I mean, you know and and we owe that to the fans and to like just I don't know just people that
06:45You know are down to take this journey with us
06:48Um, but yeah, what's it which is going to make the show super cool
06:52It's like we play a bunch of number ones with matt. We play a bunch of number ones
06:55yeah, maybe they trade off and they get creative any way that they want to be and
07:00Uh, the show just becomes like yeah, like a like a higher level of three days grace
07:05So mayday has both like is the the new album is done is is that?
07:10Oh almost. Okay. Do you know that's why I was late? I was working on something. Oh, really? Yeah
07:15It's it's about there. Yeah, we've got like enough. We've got a body of work that would constitute
07:20uh a full record but
07:22we have a little bit of time so we're kind of maybe seeing if we can like beat out a couple of the songs with
07:26with new songs or
07:29augment some of the songs just
07:30Just trying to pick away, but it's a good position to be at where we have the goods
07:34we're just like finessing and putting the sprinkles on the
07:37Sprinkles on the uh cupcake if you will
07:40So the the stuff you have are there are there adam songs and there's matt songs or is everything both of the two singers on?
07:45every song
07:46um
07:48I guess actually there are songs that are kind of like heavy on one guy less than the other
07:52um, but the first single mayday is pretty much like uh, both guys like yeah, you know
07:57just kind of going back and forth and that
07:59That collaboration how that happened again. Uh, it was it was just kind of like, okay, you try singing that you try singing that
08:05Oh, that's cool. Try switching it. Okay, that's cooler
08:08All right, you know and then like just like one guy must be singing harmonies on the other lead vocals and it's just working
08:13it's just like naturally working and
08:16I sit back and go man. This is cool. It's fun. It's fun to like
08:20Be able to kind of do this on the level we're doing it and it's actually like it's not forced
08:25We're just like hanging out
08:27Yeah, and you don't you don't have to have both guys
08:29It's like kiss like paul stanley sings love gun. Gene. Simmons sings, uh rock and roll all night
08:34Like you don't have to have both guys on every song
08:37It's not necessary. Yeah. Yeah, the only problem is I gotta play every song so
08:41Like I mentioned
08:43Um, yeah, no, it's it's it's cool man
08:45Um, you know and when we go live maybe like matt will sing adam's song and adam will sing matt's song
08:50Like there's no rules now, right? We can do whatever we want. Um, which is awesome
08:54that's the very freeing and uh, you know, our tour starts up in february late february and that's gonna just be like
09:00okay, let's go let's see what it looks like and
09:03that's part of the adventure that's part of the fun of just like
09:06You don't know what the outcome is
09:07But if you just plan as best you can and do it for the right reasons then it becomes something epic
09:13And that's a tour with disturbed and the last show is at madison square garden
09:18Which that's going to be insane, right? Yeah, and then then you have sick new world sonic temple. Welcome to rockville. Uh,
09:26Incarceration you're doing all those so that's right. I'm assuming
09:30Is there a three day uh, three days grace headlining tour like after the disturbed tour? Is that the plan?
09:36Yeah, yeah, we're working on that right now
09:38We're just putting the final kind of touches on what we want to do where we want to go
09:41But yeah, we'll be we'll be doing like hitting the us north america canada where I am right now
09:47uh fully, you know through there and then we'll be you know, we're very fortunate to have
09:53A ton of fans in europe and we go over there and the shows are just insane as well. So, uh
09:58I think next year we'll probably hit. Yeah north america hard
10:02europe
10:02um
10:03And possibly, you know, we do go to south america. We used to go to russia
10:06I don't know if we'll go be going there anytime. Yeah
10:10South america is crazy. Like every every crowd I see in south america. They go nuts
10:15Like I would love to go see a show there. Yeah, it's it's wild. It's it's crazy to go to these pockets of
10:22parts of the world that you normally might not visit or not not
10:25Get the opportunity to and for us to go there and just see like a sea of people singing every song
10:31Yeah every lyric, you know, and they don't even some of them don't speak english, but they know every lyric to every three
10:36Yeah song is like man
10:39You know, it's like that's where it's at. It's uh
10:41You know, I just look back at that. I look I look at it now just like wow, you know
10:46Look how far we've come. Yeah, it's like cool. It's amazing. So
10:50Uh three days grace the new song is called mayday. It's awesome. I love it
10:54I I love I love I can't wait to hear the album like i'm so excited to hear
10:58What adam's gonna do matt like this is all this is so great. So check out mayday
11:03uh, and then they're touring with disturbed all the festivals and then
11:07The headlining tour the album very exciting times for three days grace
11:11I appreciate it man. Yeah. No, it's uh, it kind of feels like the calm before the storm and uh,
11:16You know, I gotta get on the treadmill take my library books back get a new suitcase all that kind of stuff
11:22Are those your guitars behind you there? These are my guitars. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah
11:26This is 1980s martin this one. Here's my workhorse. That's a that's a hagstrom
11:33Uh f cut semi hollow body, but has anyone ever seen you play guitar? Is that is that something that's ever been done?
11:39You know, I I yeah, I play guitar, you know, I don't do it during three days grace shows
11:43I got a lot of my lead up there. But yeah, I play guitar. I'm not a shredder by any chance
11:47Well neil i'm so excited mayday. It's a great song. I can't wait for people to hear this
11:51Uh three days grace check them out. Thank you so much. All right, brother. Good chat
