00:00Lod Chong Singapore, one of Thailand's favorite desserts, but did you know it's not actually
00:04from Singapore?
00:05Lod Chong or Thai Chendol is a rice flour noodle served in coconut milk.
00:10That was the original type of Lod Chong before the Lod Chong Singapore came into the scene.
00:14Let's go back about 80 years, a theater named Singapore was built near Yawarat, Bangkok's
00:20Chinatown, later renamed to Chalongburi.
00:23Outside this theater, there was a Chinese vendor who introduced a new twist on Lod Chong.
00:28Instead of using rice flour, this Lod Chong used tapioca flour, giving it a unique texture.
00:33It was an instant hit with the theater goers who would grab a bowl before or after their
00:39movies.
00:40People started calling it Lod Chong Singapore after the theater's name.
00:43Over time, the name stuck, even after the theater was gone.
00:46And that is the story of Lod Chong Singapore.
00:49Sounds like Singaporean delight, but only to be found in Thailand.
