Transcript
00:00Romania is preparing for a marathon of elections starting at the end of this week.
00:07Around 19 million voters are expected to cast their ballots in the first round of the presidential election on Sunday.
00:15A second round is scheduled for 8th of December.
00:19And in between, on December the 1st, the parliamentary elections will take place.
00:25In the first round of the presidential elections, no less than 14 candidates will compete.
00:31Of all of them, according to the polls, 5 have real chances to enter the second round, which will take place on December the 8th.
00:39The front-runner for the presidential elections in all the polls is Marcel Ćolacu, prime minister and the chief of the Social Democratic Party.
00:47In the second place is George Simion, leader of the sovereign and nationalist party AUR.
00:53The third place is disputed, according to different polls, between the candidate of the opposition party, Elena Lasconi, and the liberal Nicolae Ciucă.
01:03Romanian voters are most concerned about the high living costs, the rising inflation and the low salaries.
01:09It's quite hard to have a favorite when you don't have a choice, so the circumstances make us choose the lowest.
01:16I don't know yet who to vote for and I will see.
01:19I haven't decided, I don't have a favorite, I don't think I can have a favorite, no one attracts me.
01:24The debates would have mattered, but I can't say that I was able to draw a conclusion from what I've seen on TV so far.
01:31And, in general, the lowest is the worst, because at the moment I don't think it's someone who fully agrees who is candidating.
01:38For me, honesty is the most important thing, but I also have a doubt.
01:42The presidential and parliamentary elections could either keep Romania on its pro-European path or steer it towards a more nationalist stance.
