An Iron Man invention was what stopped the Hulk from killing the Avengers in the comics
In Marvel comics, the Hulk is one of the most attractive and powerful figures, which results in very dangerous clashes for anyone who dares to cross the Emerald Goliath's path. The situation is so dire that in The Immortal Hulk, Iron Man had to use an insane invention to prevent Bruce Banner from killing the Avengers.
In this arc of the comic written by Al Ewing, we see an even more powerful and angry Hulk, as we follow his journey that takes on mystical and almost supernatural contours. It is there that we discover that the hero is immortal and practically invincible. However, throughout the pages, we have Verdão being so aggressive that he becomes a threat to the innocent. For this reason, the Avengers are forced to intervene, which results in a confrontation in issue 7 of the comic.
Despite the joint effort, the battle does not go well, with Hulk being able to overcome Thor and Ghost Rider with ease. Then it's time for Captain America, Black Panther and She-Hulk to lose to the former hero. Thus, we see Iron Man needing to use an unprecedented and absurdly powerful weapon called Laser Helios, which fires a concentrated beam that explodes the entire city in which the Emerald Goliath was.
As the website Looper points out, Laser Helios is almost a Deus ex Machina — a narrative resource that is a miracle solution that was not well constructed in the work — since this weapon had not been mentioned before its appearance to save the Avengers. However, the comic makes it clear that if it weren't for this concentrated blast of energy, the Avengers wouldn't stand a chance against the angry hero. And the situation gets worse when we see that even after exploding into smithereens, Hulk is able to regenerate and return to life.
