00:00Hundreds of Lebanese protesters gathered in Paris on Sunday, their main demand, an immediate
00:09ceasefire.
00:10Since clashes between Israel and Hezbollah began a year ago, more than 2,000 people have
00:15been killed.
00:16Thousands of Franco-Lebanese nationals that are watching the conflict from afar say they
00:20are filled with anger and guilt.
00:22They are more than 4,000 kilometers away from Lebanon, but the conflict hits close to home.
00:28Over these past few weeks, Israeli forces have carried out heavy airstrikes targeting
00:32the capital Beirut and southern Lebanon.
00:35This is the aftermath of an Israeli airstrike on a village in the southern Beqaa Valley.
00:40As a result, Mayad Sleiman's family home, shown in this video, is no longer habitable.
00:45The Franco-Lebanese doctor says he feels extreme guilt to be living in France.
00:50I feel totally guilty for not being there, because I could have given a hand.
00:55I live at the pace of the messages that announce the death of a friend, the death of a cousin,
01:03a childhood friend in the village, an acquaintance in Beirut, a colleague, etc.
01:09And that's very, very complicated.
01:11Many say their daily lives are governed by social media notifications, trying to find
01:16out if their loved ones are safe from the latest bombing.
01:19We spend a lot of time following the news, although that doesn't change the situation
01:25on the ground.
01:26But it's a way to lower the pressure for us and to make sure at all times that our
01:33loved ones, in any case, have not suffered, is to follow the news as immediately as possible.
01:40Despite the conflict, many Franco-Lebanese nationals we spoke to don't want to move
01:45back to France.
01:46That's the case of this researcher who is going back to Beirut at the end of the month.
01:50My life is there.
01:51You know, it's not easy to leave, even when you're Franco-Lebanese.
01:55My car is parked there, my apartment is there, my work is there.
01:59I'm going to come here.
02:00When you don't have your work, you have to look for work to move in, you have to find
02:05a place to live.
02:06So it's not easy.
02:08So I wanted to make this trip as planned, by making my little prayer and telling myself,
02:14here I am, I'm going to go back and everything will still be in its place.
02:18It's hard to think that everything will still be in its place and that everyone will still be there.
02:22On Sunday, the EU's top diplomat called for more pressure on both Israel and Hezbollah
02:27to reach a ceasefire.
