00:00A video showing the fatal beating of 29-year-old Tyree Nichols by Memphis police was released on
00:05Friday, January 27th by local officials. On January 7th, Nichols was pulled over at a traffic stop
00:11for suspicion of reckless driving. The newly released footage shows him being beaten by five
00:15officers. Nichols was then hospitalized and died on January 10th due to his injuries,
00:20three days after the police's violent arrest. Each of the five officers involved in the case
00:25were fired last week and charged with secondary murder and aggravated assault on January 26th.
00:30The video, which consists of footage from police body cam and stationary cameras,
00:34was uploaded on Vimeo by the police department so that, quote,
00:37it can be accessible to just about anybody, said the chief of Memphis police. Prior to its release,
00:42Nichols' mother asked that if people protested, that they do so peacefully.
