00:00Evan Peters was awarded a Golden Globe for his portrayal of Jeffrey Dahmer,
00:03but we need to talk about one victim's family who condemned the award ceremony.
00:07Peters took home the award for best performance by an actor in a limited series for Monster,
00:11The Jeffrey Dahmer Story. That prompted the mother of Tony Hughes to criticize
00:15the Golden Globes for honoring Peters' portrayal of Dahmer, who took her son's life.
00:19In his acceptance speech, Peters said he, quote,
00:21sincerely hoped some good came out of the Netflix series,
00:24which focused one entire episode on Tony's story.
00:26Surely, Hughes also called out Peters for not paying tribute to the victims and their families
00:30during his acceptance speech. Quote,
00:32People winning acting roles for playing killers keeps the obsession going,
00:35and this makes sick people like Dahmer thrive on the fame, Hughes told TMZ.
00:39This isn't the first time Hughes has expressed disdain with the media's hyperfixation and
00:42glorification of serial killers. She told The Guardian in October the show included
00:47factual inaccuracies and that producers did not ask permission to tell her son's story.
00:51Quote, It's a shame that people can take our tragedy and make money, said Hughes.
00:55The victims never saw a cent. We go through these emotions every day.
