00:09Prime Video series calls the Duggars poster children for a cult that franchised abuse,
00:14and highlights the family's connection to the religious group known as Institute in Basic Life
00:18Principles, or IBLP, which adheres to the conservative values of the Baptist faith,
00:23including abstaining from birth control. Jim Bob and Michelle posted a written response on
00:27their website ahead of the series release, saying, quote, The recent documentary that
00:31talks about our family is sad, because in it we see the media and those with ill intentions
00:36hurting people we love. They also claim the documentary paints their family in a, quote,
00:40derogatory and sensationalized way, because sadly that's the direction of entertainment these days.
00:45Shiny Happy People includes interviews from fourth Duggar child Jill Duggar Dillard,
00:49who accused her family for never paying her for her involvement in their various shows.
00:5319 Kids and Counting ran for 10 seasons on TLC before it was cancelled in 2015,
00:59after their eldest son was accused of sexually assaulting various girls as a teenager,
01:03including some of his sisters. Last year he was sentenced to over 12 years in prison
01:07for possession of child pornography.
