00:00Glacial flooding wiped out entire homes in Alaska over the weekend. Juneau City officials declared
00:05an emergency following a glacial dam outburst at the Suicide Basin, a side basin on the Mendenhall
00:11Glacier. Dozens were forced to evacuate as the flooding shut down multiple roads and bridges.
00:16At least two buildings were completely destroyed, while another was partially damaged.
00:20Video shared across social media also captured tree fall and debris littering the river. The
00:24National Weather Service said the lake's water levels peaked at 14.97 feet on Saturday,
00:30almost 3 feet more than the previous record of 11.99 feet in 2016. It's not yet clear if this
00:36outburst and flooding were a direct result of climate change, but experts have warned that
00:40floods from melting glaciers pose a serious risk as the planet continues to warm.
