Twitter rebrands to "X"

00:00Twitter is now X but Elon Musk's fascination with the singular letter dates back more than 20 years.

00:06His obsession dates back to at least 1999 when he first co-founded an online bank named x.com.

00:13Musk served as CEO until 2001 and later that same year the company became known as PayPal.

00:19Fast forward to 2017 when Musk tweeted that he had reacquired the x.com domain from PayPal

00:26which had great sentimental value to him. In April 2023, about six months after Musk took

00:31over Twitter, he tweeted X in the middle of the night without any explanation. A day prior,

00:36according to a court filing in California, Twitter Inc had been merged into X Corp and no longer

00:42exists. Then in May, while on the hunt for a new CEO, Musk tweeted he was excited to announce that

00:48he had hired a new CEO for X slash Twitter. The next day he followed up that tweet by saying he

00:54was looking forward to transform this platform into X, the everything app. On July 23rd, Twitter

01:00officially launched its new logo, a X, and the domain x.com started redirecting to the popular

01:06social media platform. Musk has also utilized the letter X in both his professional and personal

01:11life. One of Tesla's most popular SUVs is named the Model X. His private spacecraft manufacturer

01:18company is named SpaceX and his three-year-old son, whose name is still a mystery to pronounce,

01:23is nicknamed X. In a tweet, as a part of the rebrand, Musk also said the site planned

01:28to bid adieu to the Twitter brand and gradually all the birds.
