00:00Kim Kardashian is receiving some criticism from doctors and fans for promoting an expensive full
00:05body MRI scan. On Tuesday, Kardashian shared a photo of herself posing with a PRONUVO MRI machine
00:11alongside a caption that called the technology life-saving. The startup company claims its
00:15machine can detect 500 abnormalities and diseases and offers scans ranging from $1,000 for the torso
00:21to $2,500 for a full body. However, PRONUVO has not published any data that proves the scan can
00:27catch diseases early or improve people's health. Fans criticized the promotion of such an expensive
00:32healthcare measure, which is largely inaccessible to the majority of her fan base. Some doctors also
00:37said it's a poor idea, explaining that MRI scans are extremely sensitive and could pick up things
00:41that look abnormal but aren't, and therefore encourage risky follow-up diagnostic tests
00:46such as a biopsy. The American College of Preventative Medicine also does not recommend
00:50full body scans for asymptomatic people, citing a lack of evidence for their effectiveness.
