00:00A British tabloid's 68 cent lettuce has officially lasted longer than Prime Minister Liz Truss.
00:06So how did this joke take off and what's next for Britain?
00:09Brooke can explain in less than 60 seconds.
00:11The Daily Star started a video on October 14th and asked,
00:14can Liz Truss outlast a lettuce?
00:17The joke started after another media outlet called The Economist
00:20discussed the Prime Minister's tenure, saying it had roughly the shelf life of a lettuce.
00:25And on October 20th, 11 days after the column dropped,
00:28the lettuce won when Truss resigned from her position.
00:31Truss had a total of 44 days in power,
00:34which included a 10-day mourning period for Queen Elizabeth II.
00:38And many seriously questioned how long Truss would stay in power
00:41after she announced an economic package that caused a financial crisis.
00:45She replaced former Prime Minister Boris Johnson,
00:47who also resigned because of political pressure,
00:50but his tenure lasted more than three years.
00:52Truss said she'll continue to serve as the Prime Minister until a replacement is chosen,
00:56which should be done within a week.
