Scientist on why space travel is a good idea

This scientist thinks space travel can actually benefit planet Earth. Here's how ...

00:00What are these billionaires doing right? They go to space and they have like they

00:03enjoy themselves for like five minutes and they pollute the whole planet.

00:11So like we have satellites you know observing the Earth. These data are used to improve our

00:16understanding of climate change and more importantly or as importantly these data are

00:20also used to fight against climate change. Communication. Everybody has heard about you

00:25know the Starlink satellite providing you know internet to Ukraine for example. So this is

00:30providing basically knowledge capacity to everyone to learn to unleash its possibility

00:35through connectivity. And during the Cold War we had the International Space Station

00:41so everybody could see an infrastructure where Russians and United States they would work

00:48together. I think this has an important impact on hope or inspiration for everyone on Earth that

00:55yes peace is perhaps not possible right now on Earth but it's possible up there.

01:08The first membrane to purify water they were invented in the International Space Station

01:12because there was a use to recycle water and now it's used everywhere on Earth. The astronauts

01:17they discovered a technology on the International Space Station basically to use the plastic

01:22you know of the food to transform it into powder that can be printed and that with this powder

01:27printed they can do repair pieces for the station. Just imagine the potential that such

01:31a technology could have on Earth. We can refuel our vehicle in orbit like a car. We are the first

01:44in the world to use green propellant so we are very committed to space transportation to be

01:49sustainable. In a few decades we'll see the price of going to space station round about a business

02:02ticket in an airplane today. It's a bit like you know the beginning of the aviation or the beginning

02:07of the computer. You would have only like very wealthy people who had a computer at the beginning.

02:12I believe my kids you know they'll be able to take the ticket and go there.
