00:00I resigned from my teaching position and today was my last day.
00:04So here we are, my last day as a teacher.
00:07My last day was on Friday. I have nothing lined up
00:11and that's okay because I almost died over that job.
00:25A teacher shortage in virtually every region of the country.
00:29Education is about to topple in America.
00:32I mean what are you gonna do next year without teachers y'all? What are you gonna do?
00:45I decided pay was important and if I ever went to make more money,
00:48I had to get into a different career.
00:50I wasn't going to be able to afford to get an apartment on a teaching salary.
00:54So some of it was just like my personal financial goals
00:57did not line up with teaching even if I did become an administrator.
01:00Even still that was not enough money.
01:10We must really not respect teachers so much that we are,
01:15we're not, we're not going to pay them more.
01:18We're choosing to die on that hill.
01:19I still don't have my school supplies for this school year and it is almost February.
01:26I have been paying for things out of my own pocket.
01:30Isn't it so exciting that all 30 of us have to share these 10 laptops to take that test?
01:34I have the Amazon wishlist. I've added quite a few things.
01:37I love how the classroom is 55 degrees.
01:40It's amazing. My iced coffee is going to stay iced all day.
01:44Doing the daily job and being around 20 to 25 kids drains you mentally and emotionally,
01:49leaving very little leftover for yourself.
01:51Many of us did not know the lack of financial growth, the lack of respect from admin, parents.
01:56No job can make you compromise your mental health, your physical health,
01:59your wellbeing, your personal relationships, your personal safety,
02:02your personal wellbeing or your personal income.
02:04If you're in a job where you have to pay your own school fees,
02:07you're going to be in a lot of trouble.
02:09You're going to be in a lot of trouble.
02:10to compromise your mental health, your physical health,
02:12your well-being, your personal relationships,
02:14your personal life in general.
02:16I got tired of being on a rigid kid's schedule
02:18and not being able to go to the restroom
02:20whenever I needed to.
02:21The people that I worked for
02:23did not treat me in a way that I am okay with.
02:26Because of the daily stress, I developed anxiety
02:29and I fell into a depression.
02:31I have been screamed at,
02:33I have been told horrifying things.
02:35Teachers and educators are starting to figure out
02:38what they're worth.
02:41Where do these problems come from?
02:48These issues have been here for decades.
02:51This job was never easy, but it's never been this hard.
02:55There's the expectations from parents and admin
02:58to just pretend that everything is normal.
02:59And I finally realized I can't keep trying to pour
03:02from an empty vessel.
03:03And then there's staff shortages
03:05that are making everything that much harder
03:08than it used to be, and it used to be really hard.
03:12And when this pandemic hit, you know what they called us?
03:15A hero.
03:15We was heroes left and freaking right.
03:17Oh my goodness, teacher, save the world.
03:20And you have done nothing to show us that appreciation.
