00:00You know that there are people that are white that have albinism, right?
00:07I can definitely understand why you would be scared of my eyes
00:27Albinism is a genetic condition
00:30To have it both your parents have to have the gene usually both your parents are not albino
00:34But that is possible. It basically decreases the production of melanin in my skin my hair, you know, my eyes, etc
00:41And basically I'm just more susceptible to you know
00:44Eye conditions or you know skin conditions more easily because of my albinism
00:49I just do this because I have something called nystagmus most albinos have it
00:53But you don't have to be albino to have it but also because there's somebody behind you
00:56There are like seven different types of albinism, but I have the most like noticeable albinism is the lack of pigmentation
01:03I have the albinism where I have absolutely no pigmentation, which is color in my skin hair and eyes
01:07I can definitely understand why you would be scared of my eyes because in media and children's media
01:11Especially the characters with the red eyes are the evil ones
01:14They're the scary ones because red is unnatural and that's fine for fictional worlds
01:18But in real life, it's a little bit different this without a doubt is the number one question that I get and I get it
01:23I give off different vibes because of the different qualities. I have specifically my white beard. I'm actually 23
01:31Don't think I look 16 or 90. I definitely don't have any wrinkles yet. Oh, no, I got sunburned today. So that might change but uh
01:4023 most smart people know that any race can have albinism so
01:44There has been a lot of debate in the comment section on whether or not calling someone albino is a slur. I use it because it's something people can relate to and this helps them further understand my condition. However, some people find it offensive because they don't like being called by their disability. You would never call and say hey down syndrome boy, hey crippled girl, right because you just don't do that.
02:12One of the worst things about being legally blind is I can see just well enough to not see like most fast food restaurants. I look at the menu. I can see the food, but not the numbers. So I just got a guess and hope that delicious. Yeah, let me let me get a number 14. Apparently a number 14 is six forks seven napkins and 413 ketchup packets.
02:30Put a finger down. If someone asks, why don't you have eyelashes or eyebrows.
02:34Put a finger down. If someone has ever asked, are you white are you mix. We do have different hair colors blonde brown and so on and so forth. But yes, we can dye our hair. If you find yourself scared by something that looks different. Ask questions and find out more about it, then it won't be so scary to you and you'll be more knowledgeable. We definitely need more albinism awareness around the world. And if you're gonna ask us nicely.
